More About the Author

Maribeth Boelts lives in Iowa with her family and has been writing for children for almost 20 years. Her most recent titles, "Those Shoes" and "Before You Were Mine" have won a number of awards. Her picture book, "Happy Like Soccer" will be published May, 2012. A former teacher, Maribeth enjoys meeting and encouraging kids to read and write. "It is, in equal parts, an enthralling and confusing quest trying to crack the code on what makes a child pull a book off the shelf and continue turning the page. Figuring out what makes that same child laugh, feel understood or inspired is what keeps this career so interesting. I am grateful for every reader."

I work with grieving children and used this book along with a faith based video, After the Tears, A Gentle Guide to Help Children Understand Death.
I recommend both for anyone who is helping a child deal with the loss of a loved one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great help for kids dealing with the death of a grandmother, February 24, 2008

This review is from: Sarah's Grandma Goes to Heaven: A Book About Grief (Hardcover)
I bought this when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, but waited til the day she passed to read it to my 5 year old. I have read it to her many times a day and it really helped her understand the process of death, funerals and the time after. Would recommend this for anyone who needs help in explaining cancer/death.

This review is from: Sarah's Grandma Goes to Heaven: A Book About Grief (Hardcover)
This is a well written book on the death of a grandparent, but could be used for the death of a parent. The insights are emotionally sound and based in the Christian faith. We used it as a basis for a children's talk in my Father's memorial service and it was very helpful in solidifying the concepts of Heaven, no more suffering and following the loved one's good example. The illustrator, Cherie Bladholm, is very talented in the field of illustrating Christian children's books.
