This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
OK, Men of August isn't as good as the Breeds books, but it's still pretty hot. Those who like Lora Leigh's other erotica will probably like this as well.

It's true that there is a lot of stupidity in the plotting of this book (and the other August books). Yeah, it's dumb that the brothers have threesomes to "heal" and I didn't really care for all the psychobabble explanations.

But that didn't make it any less erotic that they did like to have threesomes. And that's the point of the book - Brock and Sarah are in love, but Sarah is having a lot of difficulty coming to terms with the fact that if she is going to be with Brock, she will also have to be with the other brothers.

And that, not the whole sexual healing bit, was probably the most annoying thing - how many women would have a hard time with the idea of being loved by three incredibly hot guys? The August men have the unique ability to find the most prudish, unaccepting women out there. So that was stupid, sure. And Sarah was annoying.

And I still couldn't put the book down. The eroticism was done so well that it was easy to ignore all that, most of which was just background anyway.

The writing itself is not bad at all. In fact, it's one of Lora Leigh's better written books. The lines about souls shattering are unfortunate, but they don't characterize the majority of the book.

I would recommend the August books to fans of LL's other books, although I'd point out that the Breeds books are still the best of all of them. It's hard to find writing as erotic as Lora Leigh's, and the erotic scenes are done well in this book, as in all her books. For those for whom perfect plotting and totally plausible dialog are more important, this may not be a great choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing, December 20, 2008

This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
I have no problems reading books about domination and ménage sex; in fact I've read hundreds of books with these themes. But Cade and his brothers take it a step too far. They basically tell these women you will be having sex with me and my two brothers as often as we like. And if you try to leave we'll just come after you. Because you belong to me. Oh, and my brothers as well. Doesn't matter whether the woman wants it or not.

Cade and his brothers have got some serious psychological issues. And they think that sharing their girlfriends between them makes them feel closer and therefore helps. Erm, guys, ever heard of COUNSELLING??! But no, let's not do that, let's just bully and ridicule our girlfriends into having sex with all of us instead. That way we get all the fun and they just have to put up with it. Because we're big, tough, domineering men and you WILL do what WE want.

In fact as the series progresses, the books say they are allowed to have sex with any of the women whenever they want to. Not just in a ménage setting. If Cade wants to have sex with Sam's girlfriend he can, if Sam wants to have sex with Brock's girlfriend, hey bro, go right ahead! And to make this easier on the men? The women aren't allowed to wear underwear. Ever. It's taken away from them. I mean, heavens above, if one of the guys gets an itch and Marly is available in the kitchen, we couldn't possibly expect him to have to deal with underwear! And even worse, when they first start having sex, each woman gets a brown paper bag on their bed. Inside is a sex toy and lubricant, along with a SCHEDULE of when to use it and for how long! This way the woman is ready to be taken anally whenever the men want. These women aren't women, they're objects to be used as and when required. The emotional involvement is incidental. The brothers are only going out with them because it solves the problem of finding a willing woman in town.

This book sickened me. It left me feeling dirty by association. I felt like I needed a hot shower afterwards, and not in a good way.

Also, can I just ask, why is every single woman in Lora Leigh's books completely spineless? It's like they're completely controlled by what's between their legs. It doesn't matter how badly the men treat them, one look and their minds have gone completely. They're all Too Stupid To Live.

If Lora Leigh thinks the treatment of the women in this book and the others in the series is acceptable then I think she also needs counselling. No woman deserves to be treated like an object, to be used when needed, dominated to the point, that, if she says no, she's not comfortable doing that, she's punished and ridiculed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Favorite of the Four, November 15, 2004

This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
I was kind of nervous to begin reading this book, but I was obsessed and wanted to know how things in the August family played out. This one was by far my favorite of the initial three books. I found Brock to be the more sensitive of the three brothers and more willing to talk to Sarah about what happened to them during those years of abuse. Where as Cade in the first book just demanded that Marly accept it without explanation. I admired Brock for disclosing as much as he did to Sarah. This might be why I enjoyed it more so than the first book, Marly's Choice.

One thing that kept getting to me is the harsh exterior the brothers exhibited. It seemed like it was an extension of the abuse they fought so hard to repress. And why they continued to do it, knowing how much it affected them as young men, is beyond me. And to see how the women justified and accepted everything mystified me as well, but for the story's sake I guess it had to be done.

In all this one was more fulfilling than Marly's Choice and Heather's Gift. I wasn't as shocked by the menage scenes so much this time, but it was still disturbing, can't help that catholic upbringing. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars COVER TO COVER READ....HOT. HOT. HOT., February 23, 2006
This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
Book two of the August Men series.
Can't tell you how much I love reading this author. Her stories are original and don't mimck ideas that have already been written.
At the age of eighteen Brock and Sarah had an unforgetfull night of passion. When she notices his brother Sam looking on at them she flees, afraid of the lust in the brother's eyes. Rumors go around town about the August Brothers sharing their woman. Six years later Brock is tired of waiting for Sarah and pursues her. The August family once again is being threatened by an unknown foe. The foe has learned of Brock and Sarah getting together again and wants them dead before he sees them happy.
This book has mystery, love, romance, lots of hot sex (detailed), threesomes,
light bondage and 100% alpha-male tendencies.

There is no way you will be disappointed with this book. Try to read them in order. book one.. Marly's choice.. book two. Sarah's seduction ....book three -Heather's gift and August heat is book four and it wraps up the series....Thou I wish the author could go on with this family.

1.0 out of 5 stars Atrocious...sorry excuse for erotica., April 29, 2005
By
Romance Lover "vt2949" (Sacramento, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
I'm astounded at the rave reviews of this poorly written, poorly plotted, sorry excuse for erotica. I read Marly's Choice, was disappointed by the anti-climactic plot and sophomoric writing, but I decided to give Lora Leigh another chance. I foolishly hoped that her writing would improve. To the contrary, her writing has actually worsened. Her phrasing is awkward and self-conscious. She's obviously trying to write in what she believes is a literary style, but doesn't pull it off. One example among hundreds: Marly claims to "love Cade so much sometimes I think my soul will shatter." Huh? Sounds dramatic but what the hell does it mean? How does a soul shatter, anyway? Also her dialogue, especially between Sarah and Brock, was mind-numbingly repetitious. Sarah: "I won't be shared." Brock: "Give me a chance to explain." Back and forth, over and over and over.....AARGH!!!!

But I might have been able to stand all that (okay, probably not) if the central plot hadn't been so absolutely, laughingly nutty. The August brothers were raised by a sadistic dad, who "loaned" them to a neighboring ranch, where they were repeatedly physically threatened into performing sex acts with each other. Although they were extremely turned off by having sex with each other, somehow they learned that if they embraced it, they could get through it easier. Then, after they escaped the abuse, they discovered that the only way to deal with their sense of shame was to bring home a woman for them to have sex with together. By having group sex, the brothers "bond" and "heal." So, of course, any woman who enters a relationship with any of the brothers must agree to be "shared" with the other brothers and engage in group sex with the brothers. What hogwash. Don't get me wrong. Group sex, anal sex, woman/woman and man/man sex is fine by me. Creative sex can be very healthy and is, of course, the stuff of which erotica is made. I guess that's my problem with this story. It essentially betrays the central theme of erotica: that experimental sex is normal and healthy, if performed among consenting adults. The brothers in this story, however, aren't coming from a healthy place at all. Erotica here is defined as "kinky" or even "deviant" sex that the brothers engage because they have to in order to save their sanity. In other words, the author feels she has to justify their sexual practices. But the brothers' sexual proclivities shouldn't need to be explained or justified at all. Another annoying feature is that the author bends over backwards to make it clear that these brothers ARE NOT HOMOSEXUALS, and do not enjoy having sex with other men. As if she's afraid that any homosexual or even homo-erotic tone would scare readers off. So the result is this watered down, erotica wannabe.

I won't even bother addressing the silly and unnecessary subplot of the stalker who is after the brothers and the women they love. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just too much for me, July 21, 2010
This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
First let me state that I have no problems reading about two men and one woman, but it does cross a line for me when it's brothers that are all having sex with their women (it just feels like incest). It's when more than three people have sex together that it just doesn't seem right. I really don't understand how this would make anyone bond (and instead just make more insecure people). I have always had a problem in all the romance/erotica books I have read with the man/woman (rarely is it the woman in these books) cheating. For me it just isn't right no matter how you dress it up.

So the story is about Sarah, who is in love with Brock August, yet cannot commit to that love because of the knowledge that the August brothers share their wives/women. So Sarah, young innocent 18 year old girl, of course goes running into the arms of her friend, Mark Tate. Six years later and lots of humiliating cheating and emotional abuse by Mark and Sarah divorces him. Sarah ends up back in the arms of the man she loves, Brock August. The story goes on from there about will Sarah submit to having sex with his brothers because Brock "needs her to, so that she can complete the bond they feel together". Unfortunately it left me, the reader, extremely uncomfortable because it feels just wrong (and taboo) women sharing men that are brothers (and especially for the reason below).

*********Possible spoiler*****

What I found the most reprehensible is when Brock was sleeping with his brother's wife, while seducing Sarah, but that that was okay because he didn't make Sarah any promises? It obviously upset Sarah as it would upset most woman and after just leaving a man, who cheated their entire marriage to go to a guy, who doesn't really care or respect that it his true love wants to be in a monogamous relationship. To me it just showed how selfish each of these men, who profess to be unselfish in their bid to give a woman the ultimate pleasure. The most disturbing part of the book for me was the passing the women around the three brothers (which in the book obviously the women had some guilt towards this) and justifying it with, "well the men have been abused so they can't have a "normal" relationships". Some of the sex scenes were hot, but they can't justify to me that it's okay for these 3 men to basically have open relationships and share their women. This wasn't a menage it was group sex.

This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
I think this book is one of the best I have read. Having read all three of the August men story, this one was by far my favorite. Brock just seemed to be more caring and tender of the three men. Even though it was very hard to do, he actually told Sarah details of the abuse, so she could understand where he was coming from. It seemed like he put her first. He persued her endlessly, and didn't play games with her, like the other brothers did with their women. He was straightforward about his life and what he wanted from her, and didn't try to hide things. He knew what he wanted and went for it: Sarah. I loved the things he said to her, the words he used. He was so sexy and strong, so alpha male. Sarah was a strong character as well, and I enjoyed reading her struggle to come to terms with loving Brock completely. As with the first book, someone in this book is still trying to harm the August men and their women, danger lurking at every turn. This book came to life for me. The characters seemed so real to me. I loved the emotional depth in this book. It is a must read

Three brothers had been abused when in their teens. The torture caused them to lose their brotherly bonds. (Caution: There is torture and sexual abuse in the book.) Now, the only way they can feel partially healed and calmed down from the nightmares is to share a woman in bed. Marly has been in love with Cade and has been having sex with all three brothers for years. This story is mostly about Brock who has fallen in love with Sarah and wants her to join their family and do the same thing. Most of the book is about Sarah's reluctance to be shared with the brothers and to share Brock with Marly. This same conflict continued through most of the book, which became tedious. I would have preferred not dragging out this conflict so long. Sarah was not very smart or rational in some of her actions, which took away from the story. If you're just looking for "wow" erotic and don't mind a slightly annoying story, then you might like this. There is a stalker threatening to kill the brothers and women, who is still on the loose at the end of this book. There are four books in the "Men of August" series. This was book 2. I assume books 3 and 4 may finish the stalker part of the story.

Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: at least sixteen, many lasting several pages. Setting: current day small ranching town in U.S. called Madison. Copyright: 2003. Genre: erotic romance.

For a listing of my reviews of other Lora Leigh books, see my 4 star review of "Tempting the Beast" posted on 6/30/08.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indulge your fantasies..., February 8, 2005
By
Roxie (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sarah's Seduction (Men of August, Book 2) (Paperback)
Sarah's Seduction is the second book in the Men of August series, and one of my favorite 'guilty pleasures'. Although Sarah has wanted Brock for years, she's shied away from accepting his advances. Sarah is afraid of Brock's intense sexuality, as well as her own forbidden desires. Their choices are slowly taken away as an unknown menace threatens not just their happiness, but their lives.

Sarah's Seduction is one of the hottest books in a new breed of romance for those individuals who enjoy the erotic edge of love. Lora Leigh is a highly talented author who excels at sensual, seductive images of our most forbidden fantasies. If you enjoy menages, or think that you want to push your boundaries, then this is a must read.

NB: To fully understand and appreciate this novel, the first book, Marly's Choice should be read first.
