4.0 out of 5 stars An Early Hoag Romance
In my on-going quest to read everything ever written by Tami Hoag (even if I have to go backwards to do it) I borrowed a copy of Sarah's Sin from my aunt. Having read the latest of Ms. Hoag's murder mysteries it took some getting used to when I began reading this romance novel. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best
I didn't bother to read the synopsis for the book so it was my fault that it wasn't the usual Hoag mystery story that I got. While the story (once I got used to it being a romance) wasn't so bad, I have to say that the Kindle version of it was extremely distracting. There had to be, on average, one typo a page. One of the character's name was repeatedly spelled wrong. I...

4.0 out of 5 stars An Early Hoag Romance, October 21, 2000
In my on-going quest to read everything ever written by Tami Hoag (even if I have to go backwards to do it) I borrowed a copy of Sarah's Sin from my aunt. Having read the latest of Ms. Hoag's murder mysteries it took some getting used to when I began reading this romance novel. I knew that Tami Hoag wrote romance before she began writing mystery novels, but still it took until chapter 2 before I settled into this book. Then I got lost in the world of Sarah Troyer, a young Amish widow and Dr. Matt Thorne head of the emergency ward in Minneapolis hospital. Matt is gorgeous, a bachelor and an unrepentant ladies man. Sarah is beautiful, naïve and Amish. The story begins as Sarah is nursing Matt back to health after he had been beaten and shot during a gang fight in the emergency room. Sarah works for Matt's sister, Ingrid, who runs a bed and breakfast in the small town where Sarah lives.

Ms. Hoag develops the characters and their relationship to their lives, families and each other with grace and her usual talent. It's a wonderful romance and love story and anyone who has read Nora Roberts work will enjoy it. If you are looking for Ms. Hoag's latest type of novel (Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, Guilty as Sin) this is not the same type of book although I would highly recommend it to lovers of romance novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a love story !, January 16, 2001
By
I have enjoyed all of Tami Hoag's murder/suspense novels. Sarah's Sin from 1992 was figured to be a romance novel from the title, and sure enough it was. While it didn't seem like Tami Hoag, or at least the one I had grown to look forward to, it was a sweet story about a cocky ER doctor from Minneapolis who had been wounded in a gun fight and ends up recuperating in a small town in Minnesota nearl an Armish settlement. A young Amish widow is working at the bread and breakfast run by the doctor's sister and is assigned the job of taking care of him as he recovers his strength. Of course the two of them are attracted to each other. Having grown up with the Armish of Central Illinois, I found Sarah's character believable and true to the Armish culture. The story is about Sarah's longing to leave her "plain" life and accept her love and move on to the world at large with all its opportunities and challenges. It's a fast read and a sweet story. The sex is a little idealistic, but it's good fuel for a night of fantasy. Stick it in your beach bag and enjoy.

I first discovered Ms. Hoag by reading her more recent mystery books. I never cared much for Romance novels, but gave her books a try and find that I like them. I enjoy her using cajun and Amish cultures as a backdrop. Sarah's Sin was easy reading and very pleasant.

Although I only enjoyed reading some of Tami's mystery novels,I've learnt to appreciate her romantic novel as well. Its touching & it has a classic ending, the one that is predictable. But nevertheless, its all together a heart warming story.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Tender Story, June 5, 2008

Tami Hoag is my hero among writers. I have read most of her books and have never been disappointed with any of them. They give me hours of reading pleasure. However, "Sara's Sin" diverged from her usual thrilling and suspenseful writes. Although I did enjoy reading it, it can not measure up to her thick, action-packed novels, but it was an interesting story that held my interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, August 11, 1997

This book was great. I read it in one day. It bought you into the world of how the amish lived, and what happened if they married out of their religion. The love story was unforgetable

2.0 out of 5 stars I'M GLAD SHE CHANGED HER STYLE, April 24, 1997
By A Customer
I read "Cry Wolf", "Guilty as Sin", "Night Sins" and "Thin Dark Line" before I read this one and I'm sure glad Tami found mysteries to write about. I'm not a lover of romance novels and didn't even finish this book. I guess I expected this book to be the same as the others. Not so!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Light and Sweet Romance !, December 17, 2000
"Sarah's Sin" is a wonderful love story between two people from two different worlds.

Sarah Troyer is Amish, but she's considered a rebel to her people because her thinking and ways contradict the Amish standards. Sarah's thinking and ways are too liberal and free because she yearns to learn and know more. Sarah agreed to look over her friend's brother who was hurt in this accident. But it may be a mistake because she's deeply attracted to Matt and that's not suppose to happen.

Matt Thorne was hurt in an accident and now he's in the country, resting. He's surprised when he wakes up and finds Sarah at his bedside. Matt is a known player and he likes Sarah because she's pretty, sweet and innocent. But as he spends more time with her, Matt discovers a sort of peace he has never known before, even if Sarah does make him aroused.

It all boils down to their differences. Matt is from the city and is liberal, while Sarah is from the country and is imprisoned by her Amish standards. But if Sarah was to follow Matt, she would have to give up her family. Would Sarah love Matt enough to trust Matt with her future and would Matt show her the world outside of her Amish world?

I like this book because it's sweet and romantic. The time Matt and Sarah spent with each other seems so magical. I liked the part when there were a few things that tested their love for each other and when they depended on each other to accomplish some obstacles. A good and light romance to read but it makes people wonder about the Amish ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable!, March 16, 1998
By A Customer
This had to be a pre-runner of Tami's mystery writing and, as fictional romance goes, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This story covers two totally different people, from different backgrounds and cultures who come together to find the two things they need most - LOVE and getting over the hurdle of being "different". Sarah, a young Amish widow, trying to understand her "non-Amish" feelings and yearnings, who works at a local country inn. Matt, a cosmopolitan doctor from the 'big city', who is recouperating at his sister's inn from injuries. They meet. and, although forbidden by her religion, they fall in love and try to hide their feelings. What better way to spend a rainy day, than to curl up with this book?
