BORNEO, one of the largest islands of the world, occupies portions of both the first and second grand divisions of the Eastern Archipelago, as established by Mr. Crawfurd; the eastern boundary of his first or western division, 116 of east longitude, running through the island a little to the eastward of the town of Bruni, more commonly known as Borneo Proper, so that the western and greater portion of the island belongs to his first and most favoured division, which includes also Sumatra, Java, and the Malayan peninsula.
