5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool Experimental, Instrumental & Indie songs October 25, 2011

Opening track from Russian Circles playing Mladek. Strong instrumental track w/ metal roots, officially their Genre is Post Metal & Post Rock. Sound is threatening, layered and very cool w/psychedelic waves. Over 7 minutes long, 'like it.

New York by Le Butcherettes. Confident deliberate punky garage sound, guitar and vocal dominate neat 2 minute song.

Gypsyblood with Take Your Picture. Another slow slightly threatening tune w/distorted vocal and echo noises behind simple guitar strum. Only 3 minutes long, song grows on you as the at times painful vocal and band get stronger. Like it.

Adebisi Shank with Genki Shank. Instrumental song that starts slow, picks up speed and our attention. Even the brief robotic vocal (annoying as it is) fits the song and allows this 3 piece band to keep on making their sound. Little erratic but rapid beat keeps you interested. Different, not bad, kinda cool.

Track 5 is Hope by Boris. Japanese experimental Rock Band, high speed light weight drums, guitars and keyboards backing dreamy vocal and cool sounds. Speed is the key very listenable, nothing fancy, neat zooming song. Love it.

Frozen Zoo by Tera Melos. Experimental/math Rock. As with most of this sampler nice production of sometimes different sounds. This song bubbles with variety held together by constant keyboard over vocals, synthesizers, drums and weirder noises. Different, like it.

Bonnie Says by ME & LP(Matthew Embree & Lisa Papineau). African style vocals dominate great reggae R'n'B ska-ish song. In your ears singers, nice lyrics and successful male/female counterpoint on this excellent song. Love it.

Good Old War play Get Some. Indie Folk is the Genre (per Wikipedia). Country vibe, mellow steel guitar and some pickin', twang vocal and structure. Clean competent song. 2 and half minutes like it.

Track 9 is Yubacore by Hella. Messy opening leading to messier disjointed sounds. Definitely experimental (and math/noise Rock per Wiki) and not for me.

Boris play Riot Sugar. 2nd track by Boris, psychedelic opening, heavier play, nice 70's throw-back feel, single instruments growl, very cool sound and abrasive feel. Very nice.

Final track is Everlasting Beacon Of Light by Zechs Marquise. Distracting mellow harpsichord (I dunno) opening leading to strong distorted bass march and growling play. Cool noises thumping sounds minimal vocals very neat band on very cool nearly 8 minute song that keeps your attention. Great guitar, less great keyboard still an excellent song.

Very well produced and presented collection of different songs from Sargent House. Some very nice instrumental and experimental tracks, cool Indie tunes. Not very main stream do not expect any hits, expect quality and talent doing something different. Download now and keep it for when you want to listen to something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm liking it a lot... esp for free November 17, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm liking this a lot for a freebie; I love downloading these samplers and then keeping one or two songs that catch my ear, maybe checking out the artists again later. This one, I'm playing the whole thing three times now. It's as the previous reviews described - more alt rock than house, but it's a decent "listening experience."

It reminds me of listening to WHFS in DC or WKRQ in Phoenix back around the early 90's. I particularly like La Butcherettes, who have a more than a touch of PJ Harvey, and Bonnie Says by Me & LP is actually a single worth paying real money for - even my wife walking by says, "Oh, I like that one" when that's playing.

Also - I liked it so much I thought to try to get House Sampler 1, but it's $8.99 now, and I'm just not sure about chancing the cash on an album I've never heard. So get the freebies while they're free, people. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars great release! October 28, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
uk colin pretty much summed up what to expect.
fresh grooves, experimental structures and honest delivery.

most of this release features music that has barely been released by great bands who have already released great music.
very fresh, raw and easy to appreciate the talent.

definitely worth a click and listen!
