5.0 out of 5 stars Banish winter itchy skin, February 11, 2009

I thought I was going to lose my mind with my skin feeling so dry and itchy this winter, particularly my back, in places I couldn't reach. I have several moisturizers that do help, but not to the degree this stuff does. I saw it advertised and decided to try it and voila! It's super. I like the 'sensitive skin' type particularly because sometimes I'd get frustrated and try to scratch my back with some unfriendly tool, like a fork, and have actually broken the skin more than once. This stuff not only soothes my skin and kills the itch, it seems to promote healing as well. The beneficial effect also lasts a long time. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well in combo with other things, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Sarna Sensitive Lotion, 7.5-Ounce (222 mL) Bottle (Health and Beauty)
Over the past couple of years I have developed very itchy skin in certain spots (perhaps it's eczema), and this product works well to temporarily relieve the itch for a few hours. I switched to it because I really didn't want to continue using the steroid cream prescribed to me, since I read about the side effects of steroids, many of which may be yet unknown.

In the pretty comprehensive research I've done so far, it seems that diet has a huge role to play in itchy skin, as we can easily compromise our ability to fight toxins, etc. if we are not eating right. Perhaps our society's shift to eating what is convenient has contributed to the seeming rise in eczema all around us... can't say for sure, but it makes sense that we need to feed our cells the nourishment they need. I've cut out processed foods, most grains, and processed sugars, and that has helped a lot. In their place I have put natural alternatives (honey, grade B maple syrup, sucanat or stevia in place of sugar, for example), lots of veggies & fruits, and even started juicing in the morning - that's a subject I knew nothing about before October! I can't say I've eaten kale before this month, either, superfood that it is.

Anyway, all that to say that eczema is a bigger problem than just topical, but this product does provide relief, is rated an 8 out of 10 for health on goodguide dot com, and is not too expensive when on sale or with coupons at Walgreens. Works best if I wash the itchy areas with cool water beforehand, wait until they dry pretty well, and then apply this lotion. Sometimes I like to apply Aveeno oatmeal lotion first, to moisturize the skin, then the Sarna to cut out any potential itch for a few hours.

Hope the info helps!

I have very dry, itchy skin and I asked my doctor about it and she recommended Sarno. I am VERY pleased with the results. However, next time, I will buy it locally as the s/h prices were VERY high!

SARNA IS A BETTER-THAN-AVERAGE LOTION FOR THE RELIEF OF ITCHING. IT IS, HOWEVER, NOT ECONOMICAL TO BUY IN THE SIZE AVAILABLE. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE IN MUCH LARGER BOTTLES, & AT A LOWER COST PER UNIT (OZ OR ML).

4.0 out of 5 stars Temporary Releif for Eczema Flare Ups, July 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sarna Sensitive Lotion, 7.5-Ounce (222 mL) Bottle (Health and Beauty)
This lotion will not cure your eczema, but whenever you experience a flare up it will temporarily relieve your symptoms. You don't want to get the lotion into your eyes so you really can't use the lotion on your hands during the day. The lotion is rather expensive, but it is worth the price considering you would end up itching excessively in public.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sarna Sensitve Lotion, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Sarna Sensitive Lotion, 7.5-Ounce (222 mL) Bottle (Health and Beauty)
Based on a suggestion from my dermatologist, I used Sarna for a long term itch on my testicles and upper pubic area. It worked like a miracle lotion for 60 days, after which it began to lose its effectiveness and had to increase the applications from twice a day to 3-4 times a day. It was a hassle but continued to mostly help the symptons. After a 2-3 weeks of the increased dosage I started to notice the roof of my mouth was sore and I was getting a dizzy feeling. I stopped using Sarna and within 24 hours the sore feeling in my mouth was gone and after a few days the dizzy feeling is improving. I give the lotion 4 stars since it worked great and I may use again on a short term basis after I detox for awhile.
