5.0 out of 5 stars SAS S.E.R.E. Handbook
A excellently written book. After spending time with the SAS on TDY & again working with them as instructors at the International Long Range Recon School (ILRRPS), then in Weingarten Germany, it is good to see much of they're instructional material in print & available. In comparison to US Army FM 21-76, this manual is far superior. As a member of USASOC at...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really satisfactory.
First published in '96 but I'd have thought earlier, perhaps in the 70's. Some useful information regarding evasion but really very little else of interest, just rehashed stuff from another era. In fact some erroneous information regarding insects. This book is better than most of it's type, however, in my opinion, not worth the investment.

This review is from: The Sas Escape, Evasion and Survival Manual (Paperback)
A excellently written book. After spending time with the SAS on TDY & again working with them as instructors at the International Long Range Recon School (ILRRPS), then in Weingarten Germany, it is good to see much of they're instructional material in print & available. In comparison to US Army FM 21-76, this manual is far superior. As a member of USASOC at Ft. Bragg, NC (USA), I have used this manual in the conduct of training on numerous instances. Even though I am a graduate of the JFKSWC SERE-"A" course at Ft.Bragg, much of the data presented is exceptional, e.g. "Escape & Evasion", is info not available to the average soldier, unfortunately. A proper Team Leader, or platoon sergeant, would find many ideas in establishing POI's for training. If you are currently on duty, or just interested in survival, this is a superior manual. Unfortunately there are MANY "survival manuals" on the market, that the best use for them is the pages as tinder. This isn't one of those. The material contained is a some what civilian-ized, however, the info is all workable & easy for anyone to understand. The Evasion & Escape chapter, however basic, is far more than is presented in most military manuals. Regardless of rank, add this to the "load-out pallet!" While not the only book of this nature, it is one of the best. Chris Ryan, SAS(ret.), was able to E&E from Iraq to Syria during the Gulf War, remarkable by any standards; much of the knowledge contained in this manual, i.e. extensive training in all climates, (with a lot of luck!), is one of the things that most certainly helped him "Beat the Clock."

2.0 out of 5 stars Good If Your Just Getting Started Into Survival, July 2, 2010
This review is from: The Sas Escape, Evasion and Survival Manual (Paperback)
I didnt like this book, it started out good, i thought it was gonna be great, but then it soon started to tank. All the survival basics are in there, i thought it was gonna deal alot more with evasion and man traps, it didnt.

There is some wrong information in there. One example, says you cannot eat raw fish and all fish must be cooked. You can eat raw trout right out of the stream, river, or lake. He also talks about building a shelter in the side of a sand dune, thats not something you want to do unless your willing to take a chance of getting buried alive. Eating mushrooms.... if you want to take that chance. His pictures are a bit out of scale, some of the shelters are a bit too large, the solar still picture.... the book has some more faults inside. If you do buy this book get out there and try some of the things to see what works with you and what doesnt.

Like i said, this is a good book if its your first one. Most everything is in there or gets touched on. I think this book might have started out great, an X rated survival book and then all the good stuff got edited for content so it became a G rated book. Watching Survival Man with Les Stroud has alot more tips and tricks that you wont find in a book like this. I started to read his survival book last night which seems to be a little bit better.

Anyways if your looking for man traps and a great deal more on the evasion part and how to stop people who are hunting you might want to look else where cuzz this aint it.
