Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Updating the historic tradition of stone baking for today's household kitchen, Sassafras offers a baking brick boasting even heat distribution and moisture absorption. Dry heat generated from stone produces crispier crust making this ideal for preparing pizza but its baking properties make it equally appropriate for breads and cookies. Although microwave- and convection-safe, the stone's 13-by-15-inch size makes it best suited to the traditional oven. Lifting and transporting are simplified with the included metal rack designed to fit snugly without slipping and provide two handles. Stoneware care consists primarily of avoiding thermal shock--extreme changes in temperature--and hand washing with hot water. It is best to avoid using cleaning agents as the stone may retain and pass on a soapy flavor. The disk can double as a serving piece and won't scratch with the use of knives and other cutting tools. -- Amy Arnold

4.0 out of 5 stars baking stone, February 27, 2007
This review is from: Sassafras Rectangular Baking Stone (Kitchen)
I am a chef with 10 yrs in the industry. This is something everyone should have, and the stones get better as they get seasoned with use. In reference to another review, have some common sence and dont put a hot stone on your counter top! These stones are a little thin, but if you take care of them, they will last a long time. Nice price on a good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Bajking Stone, June 3, 2007
This review is from: Sassafras Rectangular Baking Stone (Kitchen)
These cooking stones are a little thin but work well for baking bread- I bake many loaves for our business every week. Take care to handle gently!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, August 13, 2008
This review is from: Sassafras Rectangular Baking Stone (Kitchen)
This pizza stone is one big disappointment. I previously had a Sassafras Pizza Stone(for nearly 20 years until it finally cracked)which was fantastic. It cooked the pizza perfectly and browned the crust evenly. This new pizza stone (purchased a few months ago and which is not made of the same material)leaves the crust soggy. Obviously, whatever materials it is made from does NOT conduct the heat properly or in the same way as the old pizza stone. I say this with the experience of making several pizzas on it. The only way I can get a browned crust is to remove slices from the stone after baking, and put them in a heated frying pan for 3-4 minutes.

Save yourself the money on wasted ingredients and a terrible dinner. It doesn't even deserve a one-star rating.
