Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Sassy rock and roll developmental gym is a patent pending gym mat will inspire baby to "Rock and Roll". Developmental experts know that babies rock before crawling and rolling is the first sign of independent locomotion! Baby can develop important muscles and practice reaching, kicking, stretching, eye tracking, hearing and touching skills on the trendy rock and roll playmat. Along with 17 fun and engaging activities (including textures, rattles, mirrors, lights, peek-a-boo flaps and many more), this gym also includes a bonus DVD, designed in cooperation with gymtrix, providing parents six unique activities that they can do together with baby to promote "physical literacy" and bonding. An innovative new arch design makes set up a snap for busy time-pressed parents. The Rock and Roll theme is carried throughout the product with bright colors, peace signs and trendy guitars all designed with Sassy's eye and knowledge of developmentally appropriate color and pattern. Hanging from the center of the arch system is a large "Star" which features four musical "soft rock" songs, and a coordinated light show dances overhead to the beat of the music. All designed to entertain while engaging baby's developing senses. Much more than just a theme the Sassy rock and roll playmat will encourage baby to "reach" for the stars. Includes tummy time bolster and 20 minutes of music in suspended star mirror. Quick setup with fast-set arc system.

We wish the music star lasted longer.

I cut the star open to search for a battery and there is no battery that a consumer could replace.

I just got this gym and wanted to let all know that the star is now able to have the batteries replaced! Gym is sturdy and my baby enjoys it!

I can't remember whether I got this on Amazon or another store site, but I bought it for my son and though it's a nice little gym it definitely isn't worth the price tag. I paid $25 for it on sale and I've seen it listed for between $60 and 90. That's ridiculous and it definitely isn't worth the money. Agree with others as well - though now you can replace the battery on the star, it doesn't last very long if you're using it a lot.

My son loves this play gym. I looked at several similar gyms prior to purchasing this one, and finally decided on the Rock and Roll Gym because of the mirror you could hang at the top. Babies love to look at mirrors - plus this one has flashing lights that dance around the mirror when you turn the music on. It has also been great for tummy time - it has so many bright colors and high contrast with the black and white designs - my son is constantly finding something new to focus on. My only complaint is the teether was a little flimsy - it melted when I tried to sanitize it and had to throw it away. Would definitely recommend to other parents looking for an infant play gym!

This toy was great, my son loved it! Unfortunately, he is only 9 weeks old, and we returned our second one today. The musical star does not last very long, the second one only 9 days before it died. And, it does not have batteries to replace. For a $60 toy, I expect it to last MUCH longer! Needless to say, we did not bother trying a third one.
Here is a copy of the email the company sent me when I expressed my concerns:
"Thank you for your email. We were sorry to hear of the experience you encountered with the star from the Rock & Roll Gym, which has a non-replaceable battery. We are aware of a problem we have with some of the stars that just quit after playing for a few seconds, and to resolve the battery drain issue the vendor had to complete a tooling revision. We are currently waiting for the revised stars to come in. Each consumer is valued, and we thank you for taking the time to contact us."
The gist of it? Sassy knows the product is defective, but is still trying to sell it to you anyways!

The colors, patterns, and toys are eye-catching for baby BUT the sound on the star didn't work straight out of the brand new box. It's overall very basic.

Like others who bought this gym, the star in the middle that lights up and plays music stopped working after a few weeks. There is no way to replace a battery in it. I truly loved the colors and design of the gym, but it was a great disapointment to have the music quit working after only a few weeks, since the music was greatly enjoyed by my baby. I would expect something that was 59.99 to last much longer. I have contacted the company on their website, so I am hoping for a solution from them.

Well, as I am sure you have read, the musical star is the only downfall of this great product. Other than the "batteries" not lasting and being unable to change the batteries, this is a fantastic product.

Pros:
-Colorful - The baby can't get enough of the vibrant colors on the mat and toys.
-Great music - In a world of soft lullabies, the songs on the star are fitting... Rock & Roll themed and the volume is great.
-Easy to assemble - Simply put the mat down, attach the 'arms' via the Velcro pads (which hold the arms really well, BTW) and then attach the hanging toys and star via included plastic rings.
-Cleanable - Simply throw the mat in the wash if there's a mishap.
-Toys are great - Crinkle pads (both on the mat and hanging), rattles, mirrors, and of course the star that plays music and lights up.

Cons:
-The star's "batteries" do not lost too long (for us it was about two months of use)
-You cannot change any batteries currently.
-No instructions to speak of... my wife figured out that to get the music to stop, press and hold the music on button until it stops.

I submitted a consumer complaint on the Sassy website regarding the Star battery issues, and got a response in about 12 hours... here is the response:

Thank you for your email. We were sorry to hear of the problem you encountered with the star from the Rock & Roll Developmental Gym, which has a non-replaceable battery at this time. FYI...the vendor has been in the process of changing the design of the star, which will include the ability to replace the batteries. At this time, I do not know the estimated time of arrival (they have been working on it for about five weeks).

My 2 month old son LOVES this gym & will stare & look all around at all the bright colors for a long time, He even enjoys being propped up on the pillow it comes along with on his tummy & even tried crawling at almost 1 month!. However the "Star" that plays music stopped working just after a few times using it. I would lay him under it & play the music, when it stopped he would cry & I would push it again and he would continue kicking and having fun,so I know he loved the music as well. I tried going on Sassy's website but can not find a phone number or email address as I really want to get the star replaced for him... If some one could please let me know how to get a working one, I would greatly appreciate it..

Link to video of him trying to crawl in this gym at at almost a moth old![...]
