A Real Page Turner,
By
This review is from: Sassy (Paperback)
Myra Barrett lie dying--stabbed over and over by the man she was secretly dating and who she had fallen in love with. Her best friend, Carrie, lay dead nearby.
Why? Why was this happening? She had so much to live for--her career; her child. Thoughts raced through her head as life drained from her; her killer still standing over her helpless body. He would soon shower, and dress in fresh clothes, in her own apartment before attending another important date with someone very special. Four hours later, Sassy Davenport, a popular romance novelist, is having a book signing party. The line is long. This had been a good night for selling her latest novel. Norris Yoshito, is the next customer to ask for her autograph. As their eyes meet, they are instantly drawn to each other. He wants to meet her afterward, and a romantic relationship develops. As multiple murders unfold in this unforgettable novel, the reader is held spellbound from the opening paragraph. Will the murderer be caught before it's too late for Sassy? This is a thriller that I couldn't put down...I read it within 24 hours! For mystery lovers, this is a "must read."

Just Plain Awful,

I usually am never motivated to write a review, however this book was so horrible that I just can't be silent. There is so much wrong with this book for so many (14) to rate it so highly. I actually feel like I was conned. After reading the other reviews, I was expecting suspense, murder, and dash of romance. I got the murder part, I just didn't know the victim was the book.
The first thing that jumps out at you is the plot. It comes straight out of a soap opera; from the 1980s.You can actually guess who the killer is after about 75 pages or less; which isn't a challenge for an avid reader. Another problem is the terrible grammer. It's so bad that if a middle school student was to turn this in, they couldn't even hope to get a passing grade. I try not to fuss over a writer's "style" but this is too much. The errors are present from start to finish with misspelled words, words that just don't belong in the sentence (ex. "She was touch old woman" instead of tough and "rying" instead of trying), and just plain awkward phrases that no one uses regardless of class, geography, or social standing. You literally start to feel like someone is trying to hurt you using English. The author was in desperate need of a proofreader and an editor that will actually pay attention to the quality of work their attaching their name to. One other thing is that you can't get a feel for what the characters even look like until almost 100 pages into the book. This makes it hard to picture the story when you have only the vaguest idea of what the characters look like. Last but not least, the author ruins the characters. She takes the supportive and extremely forgiving best friend and does everything to try to get the reader to hate her just to make the lead character look more magnanimous when the BFF has every right to be angry and hurt. To make it worse, it's done in such an obvious turn on a dime way that it leaves you feeling frustrated and ready for the book to just end already. She then takes a perfect opportunity for the whole redemption and forgiveness cliche (which would have made this a 2 star book) and just utterly destroys it in a completely unrealistic mess that has you skimming the last chapters just to see if you correctly guessed who the killer was. After all that, the emotional fallout of who the killer is is left unexplored from the point of view of the person most affected by the entire situation. All in all, it hurt to read it, I'm amazed I finished it, and I absolutely paid too much. Definitely a must miss.

This book starts out with a terrifying moment of a woman getting stabbed by a cold blooded mad man named Norris. The suspense continues to build when we see Norris with a completely different personality. Is he mad or isn't he? Sassy thinks he is the one, but events start to happen which cause her to doubt herself. Sassy has enough on her plate trying to write her next novel and dealing with her brother's illness, but Norris seems so caring and genuine...
You will be hooked from the first terrifying chapter to the final confrontation. I loved the characters and the plot, but I thought the author could have come up with a more catchy name. I don't feel it was about Sassy in its entirety. Thank you to Ms. Mallette and her publicist for sharing her book with me to review.
