Sinister Minister,
By Draconis Blackthorne (The Haunted Noctuary) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Satanic Mass (Audio CD)
This is it! The original recording resurrected & brought to CD! At long last, the echoes of The Satanic Mass can be heard in your home, compleat with The Hymn To Satan, The Destruction Ritual, The Lust Ritual, & Zeena's Satanic Baptism, which I found to be particularly moving. But that's not all! We are also graced by the Doctor reciting The Book Of Satan from THE SATANIC BIBLE. If that wasn't enough, we also get treated to The Hymn Of The Satanic Empire as a bonus track. Plus, the mysterious ninth track, "March D'Anunzio".When listening to THE SATANIC MASS, remember to keep the light off. Or have dim illumination in the dead of the night, as recommended by Doctor LaVey, & dictated by uncommon morbid sense. The Satanic Mass is sure to entertain, as well as keep one in deep contemplation, & bestow great solemnity.

Really only worth the first track...,
This review is from: The Satanic Mass (Audio CD)
The opening track of this album makes it worth the purchase. There truly is an ominous vibe and one can highten the effect when burning candles and incense, which I highly recommend. It's sounds very dated, very 60's... but to me, that makes it all the better. Nostalgic Satanism! The remaining tracks are interesting, but not so effective. The reading of the verses in LaVey's monotone manner is tedious and not very impressive. It's good for inspiration and thought provocation, though. The classical pieces in the background are a bit distracting and overbearing. The final bonus track is just... how can I say it..? Bad. Embarassing and cheesy to the umpteenth degree. Yeah, LaVey had a great sense of humor and didn't mind playing on the hoaky side, but this track just doesn't at all fit with the rest of the disc. Overall, it's a good collector's piece. If you're into ritual magic, satanism, or just general "spooky" stuff, it's a nice buy. I would prefer if the whole recording was as evocative and magical as the first track, which alone earns the title; "The Satanic Mass".

By
This review is from: The Satanic Mass (Audio CD)
An Excellent Album! Recorded live at The Church of Satan. This is one of the First albums that Anton LaVey recorded. It has been out of print for many years and has now been re-released. Those interested in Satanism, Anton LaVey, The Church of Satan would really enjoy this album. Highly Recommended!!
