You Gotta Love James Andrews,
By J "bontonroulez" (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Satchmo of the Ghetto (Audio CD)
James Andrew's CD is filled with catchy New Orleans material and many salutes to the New Orleans old guard, including his grandfather, legendary New Orleans performer-songwriter Jesse Hill. The performances on this CD are very classy but are a little more restrained than his high-energy live shows (which I also recommend). I generally wind up humming these tunes in my head for days after hearing them. If you like New Orleans jazz and funk with an occasional dash of Latin, this is a worthy buy and a good introduction to one of New Orlean's finest performers.

James Andrews plays and sings Satchmo style on the CD, which is superbly produced by Allen Toussaint. Both Allen Toussaint and Dr. John are on every track. James comes from a musical family in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans, where brass bands still march through the streets. His talent shines through on this CD. If you have the opportunity to hear him live, ask him why his nickname is "12." -- Billy from New Orleans
