This soap bar sized device does exactly what it promises, March 27, 2010
This review is from: Satechi iCel 5200 mAh (2 amp) Battery Extender Pack and Charger for iPhone 4, 3G & 3Gs, iPod Touch 4G, BlackBerry, HTC EVO, HD7, DROID, Samsung Galaxy S, EPIC, Kindle DX, Flip & Vado HD Camcorders (Electronics)
The Satechi iCell does exactly what claims: Completely charge a mostly or entirely depleted iPhone 3GS 3-4 times before it itself needs to be recharged.
The unit is very roughly the size of a long, thick and narrow bar of soap. You wouldn't want to carry it in your pocket but it can be dropped into a briefcase, equipment bag or large purse with no problems.
The device is simplicity itself: You charge your iPhone just as you normally would, but end of the cable that normally goes into a computer USB plugs instead into the iCell. The iCell's own power level is clearly displayed by five bright green LEDs.
One thing to be aware of: You can't charge the iCell just by plugging it into the wall. You need to plug it into a powered USB slot or the Apple USB power adaptor, which turns any wall socket into the equivalent of a powered USB slot. And the iCell requires a special cable to charge, which Satechi provides together with a convenient drawstring bag. Not a huge deal but slightly inconvenient and the charging cable is one other thing you need to carry and worry about losing.

Disappointed, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Satechi iCel 5200 mAh (2 amp) Battery Extender Pack and Charger for iPhone 4, 3G & 3Gs, iPod Touch 4G, BlackBerry, HTC EVO, HD7, DROID, Samsung Galaxy S, EPIC, Kindle DX, Flip & Vado HD Camcorders (Electronics)
I was really looking forward to having this backup/traveling charging capability. However, right out of the box, the device did not appear to take a complete charge. There are 5 LED charge indicator lights, and it would only charge to level 4. The first use charged my iPhone to 100% one time, and to 80% a second time, without recharge of the device. The second attempt to charge the device indicated it only charged to level 4, but this time only charged my iPhone to 100% once, and to 40% a second time, before it was drained. Upon the third attempt the device would not charge beyond level 3, and would only charge my iPhone to 98% once, and it was drained. The product is a great idea, but did not deliver as expected. I returned this item.
The product was delivered on time. The packaging was very nice, even upscale. The construction quality appears excellent. The included instructions were weak, for example, it would be helpful to know what is a minimum or maximum charge time, especially since the device never indicated a full charge.

A powerhouse battery extender, October 30, 2009
This review is from: Satechi iCel 5200 mAh (2 amp) Battery Extender Pack and Charger for iPhone 4, 3G & 3Gs, iPod Touch 4G, BlackBerry, HTC EVO, HD7, DROID, Samsung Galaxy S, EPIC, Kindle DX, Flip & Vado HD Camcorders (Electronics)
This product really exceeded my expectations and is an excellent value. I travel a lot and run through a charge of my iPhone 3GS at least once a day. The Satechi iCel 4400 is able to charge my phone at least 4 times before it must be recharged itself.
I especially like the soft drawstring pouch which comes with the unit.
As a bonus, it will charge my iPhone mini-speaker system and my Sony Reader (with a plug adapter) - up to 8 times on its own charge
It is a compact, very attractive and well-designed product; definitely one of the best iPhone accessories. Highly recommended.
