The Satechi Bluetooth Wireless keyboard is very handy. It hooks up wirelessly, so it doesn't take up valuable USB space, and it can then be conveniently placed wherever you need it.

It's easy to connect - just go into your Bluetooth preferences, turn this on, and press the connect button on the back with a paperclip or something like that. You'll see it listed on your Bluetooth preferences as "Bluetooth Calculator Keypad" and then after you opt to link it to your device, it will ask you to type in a few numbers on the keypad and press enter. Voila! - it connects. After that, you just have to turn it on and your system should recognize it.

I use it with my Macbook Pro, where it comes in especially handy when I'm inputting grades in Excel. In keypad mode, anything you type will go on the screen. So if you type "3*5" it will type "3*5" in whatever editor you have open. In calculator mode, you can actually do the calculation: type "3*5" and it will give you "15" but then you can "push" that result to the editor you have open by pressing the "Send" button. I perform most of my calculations in Excel spreadsheets themselves, but this comes in handy when I have to do some quick arithmetic before I input anything.

It looks nice - a handsome little device that goes well with my Mac. It takes 2 AAA batteries. It's set up to work with both Macs and PCs - there's a switch on the bottom that allows you to select which system you'll be working with. My only (minor) gripe is that the "on/off" switch is down below. It does turn off automatically when not in use after a few minutes - but whenever I need to use it again, I have to pick it up, turn it over and turn it on. Not a big deal, but it would have been much easier to have an on/off button on top.

I am a big fan of Apple's Bluetooth keyboard. I like its compact size, elegant design, and, almost more than anything else, the feel of its keys while typing. They provide the exact amount of tactile feedback that I like, and I almost don't like typing with any other keyboard. However, one of the shortcomings of this keyboard is the lack of separate numerical keypad that used to be the staple of most computer keyboards for as long as the personal computers have been around. Granted, I don't enter significant amount of numerical data any more, but every once in a while when I need to do some quick calculations I miss the actual separate numerical keypad. For the past year or so I had coopted the trackpad to do the job of a numerical keypad with the use of Mobee Technology Magic Numpad. However, this setup is far from ideal - I don't have the tactile feedback that I am so used to, and the surface of my trackpad has become decidedly less smooth and responsive. All of these shortcoming are the major reason why I was excited to try out and test the Satechi Wireless Keypad.

The Satechi keypad is very clearly designed to look like the Apple's keyboard and trackpad peripherals. However, it is slightly longer on the account of the extra LCD screen on the top of its front surface. Also, unlike the Apple peripherals, it is not made out of aluminum but rather out of plastic. If you are just casually glancing at your work area desk you would not notice this difference though, but once you start typing the similarity disappears. The action of the keys is also softer than that of the Apple's keyboard.

The setup was very straightforward.

This is a good looking and highly functional calculator. It can function as a standalone calculator that you can have on your office or home desk, in your kitchen or to carry with you to a meeting. It is nicely made and professional looking. It is also a Bluetooth wireless keypad for use with your Mac or Windows based computer. The pairing of the calculator is fast and easy and for those who enter a lot of numbers into a computer this is a nice addition. The large and comfortable keypad is easy to use and comfortable. The unit comes with an instruction manual and two AAA batteries that power the calculator. I paired it with my iPad and I actually entered numbers into my notepad application.

When in the mode where it is connected to your PC, using the keyboard mode, it can enter numbers into any program you are using and you can also press the send button and input the result of your calculations into a document for example. Pressing the Mode button switches the calculator from the Calculator mode to the Keypad mode. You can set a floating decimal point or also select no decimal, 2 or 4 decimal points. On the bottom of the calculator is an on/off switch, a MAC or PC switch, a pairing button and a reset button. I like the fact that it has an on/off switch but I would have preferred that it was on the side of the calculator and not on the bottom.

The calculator is very stylish and attractive. It follows the Apple keyboard design styling. This would make a nice gift for someone and it is a great addition to your own office. I rated this as a 5 star item.
