Product Description

Color: White Trim (7 USB Ports)

The Satechi 7-Port Premium Aluminum USB 3.0 Hub adds 7 more USB ports to your computer to connect 7 USB devices for accessing or charging. This allows you to connect and use USB devices such as digital cameras, external hard drives, flash drives, and printers, all from a single hub. Powered by USB 3.0, this hub provides quick data rates of up to 5.0Gbps. Equipped with a power supply, the Satechi 7-Port Premium Aluminum USB 3.0 Hub guarantees electric current stability and the effective operation of connected USB devices. It does not require any software, drivers, or complicated installation process. The Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub features a sleek design to fit on your desk without taking up precious desktop space.

Design
Slim, strip-shape design with a sleek brushed aluminum finish, features 7 USB 3.0 ports laid out across the top so you can easily plug in and remove devices.

Performance
Providing data rates of up to 5Gbps - 10 times faster than USB 2.0. You can transfer your photos, music, and HD movies to a USB 3.0 external storage device faster than ever before.

Power
The 7-Port Premium Aluminum Hub is powered by an included wall adapter.

Compatibility
Compatible with Windows 8/7/Vista/XP/2003/2000/ME, Mac OS X (latest updates from Apple required), and Linux kernels 3.0 and later. Full forward and backward compatibility between USB 3.0 and 2.0/1.1 hosts and devices.

Note:
2.4Ghz wireless devices, such as wireless keyboard and mouse adapters, may not work in close proximity to USB 3.0 devices or hubs. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port is recommended.

This hub functions as a USB hub only, to connect USB 3.0, 2.0, USB 1.1 devices to your computer, and is not a standalone device charger. It will not charge an iPad.

Pros
1. I did receive the 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub with the packaging in great shape and on time.
2. Aesthetically, the HUB is perfectly matched to the finish of my iMac. I appreciate the construction, look, and the feel.
3. It appears solid, sturdy, and durable. Kudos!

Cons
1. A nit. While the blue LED is awesome, it is extremely bright. When my office is dark and I'm working by the dull glow of the monitors, the blue LED shines like a focused flashlight onto the ceiling of my office, brightly illuminating it beyond belief. I've had to resolve to shut my office door now in order not to keep others in the house awake. It seems to me there should be a way to provide the indicator without the intensity. (Note: I have temporarily resolved this particular issue on my own, in a way that doesn't please me much, by placing a small partially transparent sticker over the LED. This attenuated the luminosity of the light enough to not be so blinding.)
2. The HUB's power cord and USB 3.0 cord are on opposite sides. While I can understand that this may have been due to the amount of space needed for each, having them on opposite sized does pose a problem for the placement of the HUB. You can't place anything close to either end, limiting it's placement. I can see the USB cord remaining where it is, but moving the power port to the same side or the rear of the unit would be a better location in my situation. As it is, I have to loop back and secure the feed and power cables in the same direction in order for it to remain neat and tidy. The USB data cables I am able to leave free without issue.
3. Even though the HUB is externally powered, when plugging in my Apple SuperDrive my iMac indicates that the HUB does not have enough power to run it.

I have been using this hub in a stationary location on my desk. The hub itself is very attractive and the form works well. The problem is the power connection -- it isn't very stable. All it takes is a slight touch to the power cord and the power connection is broken. This is usually just a momentary loss but enough to trigger media devices to unmount. This unexpected "ejection" results in an error message on the screen and possible data corruption.

If it were not for the power issue I would give this a full five star review, however, this problem is so fundamental that I wouldn't recommend this to anyone for any purpose.

The hub looks great and 7 ports are finally enough for all my external HDs. Only small negative point is that the power supply input is on one side and the USB output on the other. So there is a cable connected on both sides of the hub...

I had the previous generation Satechi USB hub and loved it. I thought this one would be equally impressive but there were some design choices that left me cold. First, the unit is much bigger than I expected given the size of the previous hub. Making it a bit smaller would have been nice. Secondly I wish the power port had been on the same end as the USB Input. Ok as long as I'm ranting, due to the physical size of this thing they could have easily put the Input ports on the back rather than the sides. I have mine sitting under the iMac and the Input USB and Power cords are a little unsightly. Also, the blue LED indicator is very bright and actually projects a blue dot on the ceiling at night. Blue LEDs seem to be the new fad these days but I think they're too bright. Ranting aside, I can't complain about the the performance. It works equally well with either Windows or OS X. I've had power hungry USB powered HDDs and thumb drives in it and all seem to work happily with no power problems at all. The instructions say that if you have a USB keyboard dongle or mouse dongle there may be interference and it may not work properly. I have my Logitech unifying USB receiver plugged in and it works great. As for speed/performance compared to other hubs I can't tell a difference. I don't have any testing software to run on it to assess it's ability. I have no idea what chipset it's using but I'm sure some other tech savvy user will review it and give all the technical details. I would be willing to bet that it has a new(er) chipset with all the bugs worked out due to it's relatively late entry into the market place. If you can live with the size and cable placement this is an excellent hub. I love the design and would buy this product anytime over competing hubs.

Color Name: White Trim (7 USB +3 Charging Ports) Verified Purchase
Just got this today - it looks nice, decent size, I can't attest to the durability yet, but all seems fine.

Here's the issue: there are seven USB3 ports. There are three higher-wattage "charging" ports. The "charging" ports do not actually provide USB3 connectivity to the hub!

In other words, if you have a new iPad that requires more juice to charge, and you plug it into one of the three "charging" ports, it will get enough wattage to properly charge. BUT it won't be connected to the computer to sync.

If you plug it into the other 7 USB3 ports, it will sync to the computer BUT it won't charge. You could do a cable-shuffle and plug it into one or the other, and that works, but is a pain.

If you have a high-wattage device that needs watts and needs to communicate with the computer (a powered drive, for example) then tough. This won't work.

Lame.
