For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 4 Port Aluminum hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volts 500mAh. External hard-drives should be connected to an external power source. The Satechi 4 Port Aluminum hub will not charge an iPad (it will only sync).

Thats not the biggest issue. The design is overall poor design. As I speak, there is 1 USB cable plugged into it, going to an external drive. The weight of the cable is such that the back of the hub is off the desk. The bottom is basically elevated at a 45 degree angle. This is ridiculous.
What I recommend is going for the Antec Quad Port USB Charging Station (UA4-25). You get 2 1 amp and 2 2 amp ports, its white so it matches apple accessories/cables. A much better use of your money.
But what sets this hub apart is it's beautiful, Apple-esque design that has been thought out to match an Apple user's setup perfectly. Matching aluminum, white plastic housing, angled slope with the round, spiral metallic end pieces (which are shinier than Apple's), and a USB cable that has a connector that resembles exactly like that of Apple's USB cable. At least I can't tell a difference between the two connectors! The cable itself is also very short. There is also a difference between the USB 2.0 hub and USB 3.0 hub from Satechi, and although I don't actually own the USB 3.0 hub, from the look of the pictures, this USB 2.0 hub is smaller, which is nice and matches more of the slope height of Apple's aluminum keyboard and Magic Trackpad.
Great USB hub. Highly recommended!
THE CON'S: The unit comes with a 4 inch cord. If you are familiar with the current iMac (OS X Yosemite) the USB plugs are on the back of the unit (screen area) and when you plug this unit in, it just hangs with the end of the unit barely able to touch the desk. That makes it cumbersome and almost impossible to use. I had to go out and pay for an USB extension cord that was almost as expensive as the unit. Perhaps with the details as it was listed on Amazon, it did tell the reader the length of the cord, but I don't remember seeing it. Consequently I would have never purchased it. The price was competitive, however, when you add the extension cord, it made it way more costly than the it's competitors. Next, it took almost 4 weeks to receive it. Amazon did not list the origin of the unit (that I saw) and when I tried to communicate with the seller (through Amazon) I quickly realized it was coming from out of the country. Due to my complaints, once it arrived in the United States, they shipped it overnight. But it still took way too long for such a low price item.
Overall, the unit is nice looking, functions well (with the extension cord), but I would not recommend purchasing it for a desk top. It might work well with a laptop or tablet.

Asked a friend to buy this for me. The right usb port on my macbook air is broken and was planning to use this one the left side so I can have more ports to use and it works. Read morePublished 6 days ago by RicoJT
UGH. Promising idea with a terrible design flaw. Ports have BRIGHT blue led shining out of the USB port holes. Glaring bright. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Del Aney
great little attachment. I use this to expand the ports on my Macbook Pro. Even have multiple external hard drives plugged in and this thing handles them with no issues!Published 1 month ago by Gary W.
Matches nicely with iMac but the base does not sit as shown in demo pic. Once other USB devices are connected, the base moves as it is so light weighted. Read morePublished 1 month ago by odenkun
