Taken from Chapter 12: Mars People once believed that the planet Venus was very similar to earth. When spacecraft explored Venus and Mars, however, scientists came to another conclusion. Probes took images of both planets, measured their temperature, studied their atmospheres, and discovered that Mars is the only planet most like the Earth. Because of this discovery, Mars is the next planet that astronauts will explore.
