More About the Author

VIRGINIA SATIR (1916-1988) was a pioneering psychotherapist, lecturer, and author; she was internationally renowned for her work, especially in the field of family therapy. Considered one of the most distinguished therapists in recent history and selected to be on the boards of numerous prestigious councils, Satir was also known for her Change Process Model, still embraced today. Time magazine once wrote of her, "She can fill any auditorium in the country." She cofounded the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, the first organization to establish a formal training program in family therapy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of the Satir Model, April 1, 2000

This review is from: The Satir Model: Family Therapy and Beyond (Paperback)
This book is a great in-depth review of the work of Virginia Satir. Its simple, concise writing and decent illustrations make it a wonderful way access the beliefs and therapy techniques of Satir. If only all psychology books could be written this way! I learned a lot and enjoyed the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Satir Model, February 12, 2010

This review is from: The Satir Model: Family Therapy and Beyond (Paperback)
I am long retired, but am immersed in the subject of the sel-defeating and illogical behaviors of many or most of the people I interact with. My corporate management experience left me baffled at why so many of us act in ways that are opposite our desired outcomes. This has lead me to spend consierable time reading and discussing psychotherapy, systems and compexity theory, My reading has lead to the conclusion that most authors agree on the mechanisms, but attach the problems from different points of view using various models and phrases to support their approach. I find The Satir Model the best of the lot by far, both in its detail and its message.Satir Model: Family Therapy and Beyond
