5.0 out of 5 stars Bass Therapy, January 30, 2002
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
The bonus to this recording is that it comes with it's own micro climate, possibly a Brazilian rain forest, or a beach in Jamaica. Oddly enough, it emanates from Nuremberg, Germany, where the Boozoou Bajou trio has crafted a bassy, sensuous and sexy album, equally influenced by the
deep blues of Muddy Waters and the sound manipulations of Lee "Scratch" Perry. The craftsmanship is flawless, the rhythms fluid and the music dangerously intoxicating. It's sensual warmth sets it apart from the electronic chill of other euro-dub outfits like Tosca, Shantel or Waldek. A smooth blend of latin, west-indies and jamaican flavors collide to make "Satta" ("relax" in Jamaican) an instant downtempo classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep, dubby and downright delicious, October 9, 2001
By
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
Prior to this release Boozoo Bajou whet our appetite with some tasty remixes. Here they serve the entire meal, starter through to dessert - all of it lip smacking good! Though firmly rooted in the bass-heavy, head-nodding sound of dub, the tracks maintain interest by gently exploring other styles (such as trip hop, break beat, blues, and bossa nova). At the core of each song is strong percussion and around the drumming the other layers of sound are added. The overall effect is a dreamy-stoned sound that will appeal to lovers of the slower stuff from Kruder & Dorfmeister, Tosca, Thievery Corporation, Smith & Mighty, et al. It is difficult to pick a favourite track but "Down & out" is wonderfully atmospheric and conjures up images of tumbleweed, rattle snacks and the lonesome life of a cowboy traversing the Arizona desert. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Electronic Swamp Jam. Just about perfect, January 13, 2007
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
After reviewing a few albums on amazon and realizing I hadn't given anything 5 stars yet, I decided it was time to get positive. Maybe the first album that came to mind as undoubtedly deserving a 5-star rating was Satta. This is one of those rare albums with no weak tracks; you don't put this CD on to hear a few favorite songs, you put it on to play all the way through and let the mood wash over you. Don't confuse this to mean that you can sleep through it, though -- the tracks are all strong and varied. While certainly a chill album, it is one that commands your attention regardless, throughout the entire journey. (Different reviewers have felt transported to different places through Satta; to me it's a journey through a mythical, backwoods swampland somewhere in the southern US.) And I dare you to try to make it through the whole thing without breaking into some head-bobbing. I wouldn't even use my beloved Shuffle function on this album, feeling that it would unfairly disrupt the hypnotic momentum that starts building as soon as you hit Play. Transcendent and defies classification.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jah Bless, August 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
This is heavy dubby music, quite similar to cleaner sounding Lee "Scratch" Perry instrumental reggae numbers. The drumming is tribal and hypnotic and the tracks are threaded with soulful blues groaning, atmospheric jungle sound effects and the occasional trumpet. Low key, but a new benchmark in it's field.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, September 4, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
I don't know what is the reason of the name Boozoo Bajou but i know that as they are originals in the name they are originals in the music.
I can't find a kind a music to define this album, tribal R&B? fusion-reggae? trip-hop folk?
It's a mix of all of this and more, the total result it's a fantastic five stars CD.
I know Boozoo from the Costes collection (you can find Night over Manaus in the Costes La Suite)but here you will find the real spirit of this group.
Fantastic (of course also Night over Manaus) are Camioux and Divers but also Down and Out and Under my Sensi.
This CD it's probably only for few people (no easy to find)...but if you love this kind of music you must suggest to your friends as i suggest to you to order now your copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars love the mood., May 28, 2003

what a great album. i first heard and heard of boozoo bajou from ministry of sound's "the chillout session." since then (and thanks to the other amazon.com reviewers), i've really gotten into the group and especially this record. satta is something you listen to to get away, to create an atmosphere. i love the way the tracks put me in another place, a more relaxing place. especially "night over manaus" ...the groove on that track is amazing. and don't forget "under my sensi" and "down and out." the latter made the aforementioned ministry of sound comp for a reason. a warning: once you start listening to boozoo bajou, it's really hard to stop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful downtempo with real instruments used!, July 11, 2003

Chilled, mellow and theraputic music. There is not one bad song on this album. Think of soulful downtempo meets ear massage therapy! No party music here. I bought this one on a whim and love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAD BLUNTED BEATS!!!, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
"Satta" is a very impressive collection of some of the most laid back and funky beats I've ever heard. Ranging from styles of Dub, reggae, rhythm & blues, world and deep downtempo, German duo, Boozoo Bajou has produced quite an ambitious debut that has already become ubiquitous on nearly every chill out album on the market. Rightfully so, because Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth really know how to create music that is easy on the body and soul, yet compelling and energizing at the same time. Songs of note: really, all of them--"Night Over Manaus" is a personal fave, though! "Satta" is hard to acquire, so whenever you see it for sale you better jump on it. Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Downtempo Record, January 5, 2003
By
Gianluca De Capua (Montreal, QC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Satta (Audio CD)
This album from boozoo bajou is everything to ask for in a downtempo record; very dubby, lots of bass with different elements of bossa, jazz and trip hop. The songs do not remain the same they lift and take a hold of you creating this exilarating mood of being in a jungle or wild place of some sort. Various musicians such as trumpet, guitar, trombone, bass, flute, sax and percussion players are occasionaly present on this recording who add a tiny touch of their instruments to spice up the mood. A must get for down tempo music lovers and those who like Kruder & Dorfmeister, Tosca, and maybe the slower side of Dzihan & Kamien.
