5.0 out of 5 stars SONICFLOOd 2, March 27, 2002
By
"n8gold" (Seminole, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saturate (Audio CD)
WOW, where do I start? Rick Heil is a great lead worshipper live, but his effort fell far short of what the follow-up to SONICFLOOd should have been. Saturate doesn't. Let's face it, Jeff Deyo was, and always will be the voice behind SONICFLOOd, and let me assure you that this title is the follow up us SONICFLOOd loyalists never got.

In Deyo fashion, we start the CD off with a prayer over this project and those who hear it with the intro to "More Love, More Power" playing in the background. Than it is on to the coolest version of this song I have ever heard. This remake of Jude del Hierro's classic is a classic in it's own. In the background we also have D.C. Talk's very own rhyme-master Toby Mac.

From there we go to one of 9 new Deyo origionals titled "Let It Flow." I believe this song is the first radio single, and will be an instant hit. Like many of Deyo's songs, it provides the soft-to-loud formula that is so popular these days. Comes with a refreshing bridge/lead lick that breaks it up a little bit. A great worship tune that rocks.

"Lose Myself" has a great mix of influece as well. The song starts off with an instrumental of the chorus. Musically the verse is really "Incubus-ish." The bridge provides a great build to the U2-like drum beat chorus. Then breaks down to vocals and a light acoustic guitar which creates a nice build up back into the powerful chorus.

Next we have "This Is My Desire (I Will Give You My Heart)" re-recorded in much the same way SONICFLOOd origionally re-did "In the Secret" on the first album. Starts off really pop-like with the doo-doo-doo's, but turns into a very cool worship tune capable of being a staple at contemporary worship services all across the nation.

"All I Want" featuring Nicol Smith, is a very powerful song expressing the want for more of God. More interaction with God. There is not much you can say about this song, other than the fact that it is a song you "feel" more than a song you hear.
After the song ends on the same track Deyo sets up the next song "Satisfy" with a minute an a half of speaking much like after "Heart of Worship" on the self titled CD.

"Satisfy" is another cool tune that provides a very powerful chorus about wanting to follow Jesus whole heartedly, but fearing letting go of the world. It is an honest feeling that many Christian struggle with, that provides the transition from wanting to be free in Jesus and then making the big step to trust in God with everything and "step out of the boat and onto the water." Very powerful and convicting.

"Let Me Burn" starts off with the instrumental chorus. Feels like the natural sequel to "Carried Away." Goes from a softer verse to a "Shout To The North" like bridge, and then into the chorus with very "middle eastern" sounding scales on the strings.

"Many Crowns" is in my oppinion one of the best tunes on the whole CD. Starts off with the instrumental chorus and then goes into a low-key version of the verse. Then all the instruments kick in with an RnB kind of sounding bass line. Then the VERY powerful chorus kicks in. This is a very emotional song about what Jesus went through JUST for us. How he wore many crowns. Crowns of cruelty, hate, throns, and death for US. You canno't listen to this song without being affected.

"Many Crowns" has to be one of the hardest songs to have to follow, but Deyo pulls it off, bringing it down a bit with "Thank You For Life." This is a Thank You to God, for giving us things that we canno't pay for. God paid off the tab that we could have paid for. Very touching.

"You Are Good" is interesting. It takes up three tracks starting with the "Piano & Cello Movement." Then it goes into the actual songs (where the lyrics kick in), and then after that there is the "Orchistral Movement." Of course these three tracks all run as one without you knowing. They obviously provided the three as different tracks for the benefit of not having to fast-forward through 4 minutes of piano to hear the lyrical part.

After this comes an old hymn written in the 30's by Rhea Miller and Geaorge Shea. "I'd Rather Have Jesus" is a very rocking tune that keeps it's hymnal roots while still sporting a modern edge. This is done in what seems to be the new fad of re-doing old hymns. Much like "Before The Throne Of God Above" from SONICPRAISe.

This project then caps off with a duet with Rebecca St. James on the very U2-on-electronic tune "Sing To You." This song is a great way to end a great CD. After the song there is a praying session much like there was on the first CD with Deyo and two other men.

Obviously you can tell that I was and still am a fan of the origional SONICFLOOd project, but all bias aside, this is easily the best Christian CD put out in YEARS. The last studio CD that I can think of that comes anywhere near this is the origional SONICFLOOd CD. There is not a bad song on this CD, and each song provides great music and more importantly a GREAT message.

This is a CD you can show your non-Christian friends, and has already been a great tool. I strongly reccomend this CD to anyone who enjoyed SONICFLOOd's first two CD's.

5.0 out of 5 stars led into his presence, July 14, 2003
By
Stephen Ramos (Hagerstown, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saturate (Audio CD)
And thats what Jeff Deyo has done for me everytime I have listened to this CD: led me into a deeper place, into the presence of our great Lord.

This is THE single most inspirational and deep worship album I have ever owned, I love third day, delerious, matt redmon, and mercyme, but this is it. No matter what mood I am in, no matter how hard my day, when I worship along with these songs I am renewed.

From begining to end this album just feels complete. It starts out strong in "More Love, More Power," progressively getting slower and more soulful till it hits 2 beautiful and meditative instrumentals flanking "You are good," then finishes strong with an ode to a classic, and a duet with rebecca st. james (who you really cant hear thet well, which is interesting).

As far as the prayers that one reviewer critisized, I have another way of looking at it. These allowed me to see Mr. Deyo not as a rock star, or celebrity, but as a fellow believer, using his talents to further the Kingdom. It gave me a view of him not as someone seeking fame and fortune, but as a man humbly offering his gifts to God. That is my take, and It added to the CD so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!! BUY IT NOW!!!, February 10, 2003
By
This review is from: Saturate (Audio CD)
I feared that Jeff Deyo, without the rest of Sonic Flood to back him up, would not be very good. I WAS WAY OFF. All of the songs on this album are filled with such a Heart of Worship. You can really tell that Deyo completely put this album in God's hands. Not one song on here doesn't rock out to Jesus. Along with amazing worship, this music is great musically. Rocking gutiar in "Many Crowns", fun beats in "Let it Flow", it has it all.

This CD is also a great outreach. Several non-Christian friends have bought this CD solely for musical reasons. AND THEN COME TO CHRIST THROUGH IT!! I cannot say enough praise for this CD. Deyo did an amazing job...
