5.0 out of 5 stars Janis Ian is a highlight, July 22, 2009

Amazon had a great sale price on this, allowing me to watch it through my Roku box. It's really great seeing the episode that started it all. If you are a fan of the show, in its good years and its not-so-good years (I'm looking at you, Anthony Michael Hall), then watch this, and also read "Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live".

For me, the highlight of this show was hearing Janis Ian singing "At 17".

5.0 out of 5 stars SNL, 1st Season, September 15, 2009

George Carlin was the host of this first program and he was working really hard to connect with the audience. He did not make it. He over did the jokes. John B. was the reason I purchased this season, but, regrettably, he had limited exposure. Billy Preston was remarkable and so was Janis Ian. I enjoyed viewing the beginning of SNL and the comedians with the program.

I never tire of watching early SNL broadcasts. In this show George Carlin says, in his second monolog, "Do you ever look at crowds in old movies and wonder if they're dead?" From this show: George Carlin, dead. Andy Kaufman, dead. John Belushi, dead. Gilda Radner, dead. Billy Preston, dead. All at a young age. Spooky.

If you, like me, stopped watching SNL when Dan, John, Chevy, Jane, Garrett, Laraine, and Gilda left, then you'll love this.
