Good presidential/political satire,
By Matt Goldstone (Watertown, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saturday Night Live - Presidential Bash 2000 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Presidential Bash 2000 is a quality selections of presidential and political skits done over the years. It gets off to a funny start, with opening remarks by the real life George W. Bush and Al Gore. The opening skit is the debate between Gore and Bush, and their characters make appearances throughout the program. Darrell Hammond does Gore as uncannily as he did Clinton, and also makes appearances as Dick Cheney. Will Farrell's Bush character accentuates his simplicity, using words like 'dignitute'and 'strategery.' Farrell also makes funny appearances as Janet Reno. The first half of the tapes features earlier clips (Many of which are repeats from the first Presidential Bash tape that came out a few years back.) Many of these are quite good. A particularly good older clip that was re-introduced on this tape is 'Dukakis After Dark.' This is a skit where Dukakis decides to through a party on his prepaid television slot, when he realizes he has no chance of winning the election. Jon Lovitz does Dukakis, and comes clean at the party, admitting that he lost because 'Reaganomics works,' and that he was going to raise taxes 'through the roof!' The last few skits are more recent ones, which are all quite funny. In one skit, (pre-election results) Bush and Gore decide that they will both be president since we don't know who we want, and an Odd Couple skit follows. Like most SNL tapes, this one has some flaws. One notable example is the reoccuring Bob Dole as a Real Word guest skit. While this is a humurous concept, it's not necessary for there to be three skits; especially considering and number of skits that could have been used instead. But all and all, Presidential Bash 2000 has some good stuff on it.

I found this video to be truly hilarious. The cast of SNL accuratly portrays all the presidents and related staff while at the same time poking fun at them and allowing us all to sit back and laugh at the people who run our country.

My husband and I have watched this countless times since it was first aired. We practically have the thing memorized and quote it often. It's the best of the political skits on SNL ever, and it's hilarious. They did an updated version that's available on DVD for 2008, but it isn't quite as good as this one. Can't beat it... now if only they'd release it on DVD!

Probably the best SNL political sketch compilation I've seen,

I also don't own this video, but I taped the original show when it aired in 2000. I would say it's the best compilation of SNL political sketches that has aired between 2000 and now (I didn't watch SNL prior to that). It is hilarious! I especially like Dukakis getting raised up on the podium at the beginning of the debate, and the Bush/Gore "strategery"/"lockbox" sketch. It's also noteworthy that back then, SNL actually made fun of both parties equally! (Compared to the current SNL season, where Palin was destroyed and Obama was coronated on the show.)

I don't own this video but I saw the episode when it originally aired. Hillarious! It may be my favorite episode of SNL ever! It's hosted by George W. Bush and Al Gore themselves. My favorite sketch is the debate between Bush and Gore and...you'll just have to see it yourself!
