Perry Como fans must have this one.,
By Richard Herbster (Broomall, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saturday Night With Mr C / When You Come to End of the Day (Audio CD)
This double album captures PC at the height of his career. The vocal warmth and ambience of these RCA Living Stereo Recordings are superlative. When I was 12 years of age in 1958, my parents danced in the living room to these songs and I can tell all of the Baby Boomers who grew up on Perry Como: BUY THIS ONE! No disappointments here. This guy could really sing! Collectables did a good job of mastering the original tapes - without the hiss associated with 50's-generation master tapes. I'm a little surprised that BMG/RCA has not reissued these CD's in an audiophile HDCD format. Today's music cannot compare with the quality of these orchestral and vocal arrangements. They will be classics 100 years from now.

"Come Rain Or Come Shine" included and in REAL STEREO!,
By Matthew Long (West Midlands, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saturday Night With Mr C / When You Come to End of the Day (Audio CD)
This 2 CD Set brings together in full (for the very first time on CD), Perry's first 2 STEREO albums for RCA Victor recorded in 1958: "Saturday Night With Mr. C" and "When You Come To The End Of The Day". The set also includes 6 bonus tracks from Perry's 1959 RCA Victor album "Como Swings".
A very interesting point to note is that "Come Rain Or Come Shine" is included in REAL STEREO. It was excluded from the Original STEREO release (despite being listed on the back cover) due to space limitations within the then, new format. It was however released in MONO within the MONO release of the "Saturday Night With Mr. C" album. In 1967, the song was included within Perry's RCA Camden compilation "Hello, Young Lovers" - but in ELECTRONIC STEREO (reprocessed from a MONO source). Here, for the first time is the complete "Saturday Night With Mr. C" album in REAL STEREO, including "Come Rain Or Come Shine". The sources are Release Master Tapes and this is one of the best efforts of Collectables. This CD is a fine example of the excellence of STEREO, even in it's earliest days and represents a very good value for money 2 CD Set.

Remembering Como On Television,

This review is from: Saturday Night With Mr C / When You Come to End of the Day (Audio CD)
If you want to hear the kind of music Perry used to do on his 1950's to early 1960's television show, "Saturday Night With Mr. C" is better than anything else he has done. In fact, it's one of my favorites of Perry's. The orchestrations by Mitchell Ayres are great, and some of the most memorable numbers are "Accentuate The Positive", "It COuld Happen To You", "Love Letters", "When I Fall In Love" (perhaps the definitive recorded version?), and of course the familiar, fun "We Get Letters". Great stereo! There are also some bonus tracks from "Como Swings", another album with great arrangements by Mitchell Ayres. While not a "pop" album, "When You Come To The End Of The Day" has some beautiful recordings of relgious music. As a Buddhist, this is about the only relgious music I can tolerate...it's just too beautifully done to ignore!
