5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth R&B
I love this CD. If you like smooth, mature R&B, than I recommend it to you. Tracks like "Saturday Night" and "Request Line" are upbeat, fun, rhythmic songs. 2.0 out of 5 stars Give it time.
maybe in a few years i'll like this cd but, i miss the style of songs from their first cd. My favorite song would have to be, For a reason. When i first got the cd i only liked things like Mr. DJ, Vibe, Groove thing. but, i was also 13/14 then i got older and saw the true beauty of the cd and i think this is what will happen to most who own Saturday night. so in a few...

5.0 out of 5 stars Zhane. Where are you?, September 12, 2005
This review is from: Saturday Night (Audio CD)
"Have you ever loved somebody, secretly loved somebody who didn't know?" This question is smoothly asked by two of the industry's most underrated vocalists. "Crush" is one of those timeless songs that is beautiful in every aspect.

Saturday Night is the second album from this powerhouse duo known for up-beat dance tracks ("Request Line", "Last Dance"), jazzy mid-tempos ("This Song is for You", "Rendez-vous") and heartfelt ballads. Zhane effortlessly express emotions most can never find words for. "My Word is Bond" and "Kindness for Granted" are lyrical jewels that speak on love, longing, loss & the ever-changing components that go with relationships. "I want this to be all that I have wished for in prayer," they lament on "Temporary Thing".

"Piece it Together" features the velvety-vocals of Will Downing and Najee on flute. Another gem. Zhane were masters of melody and blended harmony. At times it is even hard to tell who is singing. Is it Jean? Is it Renee? The clever remake of Billy Joel's (love the finger snaps!) "For the Longest Time" is truly unique & Zhane definitely made it all their own. "Good Times" plays homage to Chic's 1979 disco hit.

Zhane was in a class by itself. This duo epitomized class, sophistication and a style that was often imitated but can never be duplicated. Their songwriting skills were incredible and poignant. "Saturday Night" is a classic to relax with on a quiet evening, curled up with glass of wine, and a favorite read, or on that drive home through rush-hour.

Peace*blessings. CLB.

I have kept this album in rotation on my CD player for 2yrs now. Before the harmony of the Jazzyfatnastees dropped and before people heard the mellow sounds of Jill Scott there was ZHANE! Talented songwriting, beautiful, precise harmonies and banging' beats suitable for the jeep or the living room! "Request Line" is a smooth follow up to "Hey DJ" from their red hot debut album. "Saturday Night" is the type of song you bump while getting ready to go out to party. "So Badd" is a mellow/funky groove and "Crush" is achingly beautiful & haunting. "This Song Is For You" is MY JAM! Their remake of Billy Joel's "For The Longest Time" is nothing short of musical perfection. Then we have the jazzy slow jams...the sensous "Rende-Vous", the sweet "Kindness For Granted and the gorgeous "Piece It Together" with Will Downing. I am so saddened to find out that this beautiful and talented duo has broken up. I will hold onto this album with my life and continue to spread the word on the dopeness of Renee Neufville and Jean Norris as "Zhane".

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and Beautiful bar none...Soul and Passion with class., May 12, 2006
This review is from: Saturday Night (Audio CD)
I truly think the sophmore release is equally enjoyable as the debut release. Zhane has an affect on me like no other duo of their genre. It is impossible for me to skip any track while I listen to the cd.

I would love to hear more from them, however...it has been some time now since anything has been relased.

The music industry is only looking for the next money maker and many groups and duos today are so superficial and lack the passion artists like Zhane has. unfortuantely.

Zhane has a unique blend of vocal ability which demonstrates true artistry and professionalism and which is not found in the R&B music genre these days; granted, there exists only a minimal few.

I definitely recommned this cd as well as the debut release. Add class to your R&B collection. Zhane....Bravo!.... to both of you for two releases of true musicianship and true artistry.

5.0 out of 5 stars No words can express, May 16, 2005
This review is from: Saturday Night (Audio CD)
These girls are dope like nobody's business. I loved their music ever since my 4th grade teacher told me one of his daughters were the singers. They came to school and sung for us and gave out posters. They were so down to earth and they sing so beautifully. I met alot of celebrities and these were the only ones that truly inspired me. I hope that everybody gets their albums and realizes true talent that R&B is missing nowadays.

This is a great follow-up to their debut featuring timeless music with mature lyrics. The great thing about Renee & Jean is that they are both vocalists, songwriters & musicians which added that special "something" to their music. It's a shame that we only got 2 albums from this dynamic duo but what great music we have to listen to forever!

My favorite tracks are:

CRUSH - great melodic track, one of the standouts that sound like it could've been left over from their debut;

JUST LIKE THAT - great lyrics about falling in love;

FOR THE LONGEST TIME - excellent reworking of the Billy Joel classic, they really made this song their own with a very interesting arrangement;

KINDNESS FOR GRANTED - great lyrics about friendship;

PIECE IT TOGETHER - powerful lyrics, an assist by Will Downing & Najee's flute solo...excellent;

TEMPORARY THING - beautiful lyrics sung equally as beautifully by Jean;

CONFUSION - beautiful ballad &

SATURDAY NIGHT - nice mellow yet danceable track.

5.0 out of 5 stars A can't miss, February 18, 2005
This review is from: Saturday Night (Audio CD)
This CD is absolutely phenomenal. Of all the R&B CDs I own, this is one of my favorites. Perfect CD to just relax to...and to set the mood? Mmm mmm mmm. This CD, much like Maxwell's and Sade's seems to be designed for the sole (and soul) purpose of making love. The first 8 tracks have a great flow that will just melt you away and the rest of the CD is perfect for snuggling and those tender moments. It is a masterpiece in my opinion. Zhane, my libido's hat is off to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saturday Night, July 7, 2003

I just re-ordered Zhane's "Saturday Night" along with their self titled debut album from 1994. I absolutely love their music! These ladies epitomize CLASS. Their sound is a mixture of jazz, neo-soul and hiphop. One minute you're jammin, the next you're mesmerized by the beauty of their love songs.

Like others, I let family and friends borrow these two cds, never to see them again. I thought the cds were out of print, but to my surprise, you can order them both at an affordable price. I would highly recommend adding these two cds to your collection. I'm so surprised that no new material has been released by this fantistic duo.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 YearsAnd still STRONG, Zhane make another..., June 6, 2003

Okay, Now, I have had this CD since 1997, and I have never gone without it. Every friend that has heard Zhane, Saturday Night, has "borrowed" my CD, so I am at the moment on my 3rd CD!
If you do not have this CD, you need to throw on some shoes, dont care about your looks and buy this CD from the nearest music store. Superb!!! You will not regret it!

Tracks 1-16 are my AB FAV, Girls Bravo.

My only concern is that we have not heard from them since, and I dont know if I was kept out of the loop, but what happened to Zhane. Their soulful voices, their elegance, I would think we would hear more of them, and have more CD's to put into our players. ... For Zhane: DIVA is what comes to my mind. Because you sound wonderful. Keep it up , and lets see you two soon!!!
