Amazon.com Review

"Doo-bop-a-loo-bop!" In this rollicking romp through a prehistoric weekend, dinosaurs frolic and caper the night away. After some initial early evening shuffling shyness, these party animals are ready to get down, doing the Triassic Twist and the Brontosaurus Bump, the Raptor Rap and Jurassic Jump. With all this rhythm and rhyme, it's no wonder romance is soon afoot: "Tarchia winked at a stegosaur she liked. They danced together, spike to spike." This outrageous book provides a much more appealing theory behind the disappearance of dinosaurs, and hints at the possibility of another Dinosaur Stomp someday in the future. Scott Nash's wonderfully friendly bopping beasts radiate a contagious exuberance with their smiling, simple faces and bright colors and patterns. Carol Diggory Shields couldn't have found a better match for her rocking, rolling, twirling, tromping, "scientifically accurate (more or less)" dinosaurs. A guaranteed favorite that will have young children gleefully chanting "Boomalacka boomalacka! Whack! Whack! WHACK!" (Click to see a sample spread. Text ©1997 by Carol Diggery Shields. From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2. There is a catchy rhythm in the rhyming verse Shields creates for her dancing dinosaurs, though the subject matter alone ensures a receptive audience. There's no real story here?just a playful description of events leading up to the big Saturday night event, the Dinosaur Stomp. Nash's large, brightly colored illustrations are full of movement and complement the light tone of the text. The cartoon dinosaurs are drawn with partial accuracy in regard to their general shape and attributes such as horns, but these friendly faces are not at all threatening or scary. Children will enjoy the lively verse and exuberant artwork; dance steps are diagrammed on the endpapers. A perfect companion to books such as Wendy Hartmann and Niki Daly's The Dinosaurs Are Back and It's All Your Fault Edward (McElderry, 1997) and Diane Hearn's Dad's Dinosaur Day (Macmillan, 1993).?Robin L. My toddler's teacher told us how much she and all the other kids love the tape that goes with this book. After many searching, I found out the tape is only sold through Scholastic. You can't get it online or in a bookstore. For those who are interested, call 1-800-SCHOLASTIC (1-800-724-6527).

This book is a huge hit in our house! My three-year old daughter, my husband and I love the colorful drawings of dancing dinos and the lyrical story. We read it again and again and never get tired of it. It's a must-read for the dinofanatic, dancin' preschool set and their parents.

I am having to buy this book a second time because we have lost our precious first copy and my 2 1/2 year old BEGS for it CONSTANTLY. He simply cannot get enough of this book. It's his absolute favorite. He loves the rollicking rhythm and rhyme. It really has a rock-n-roll reading beat to it, and my son loves repeat some of the musical words such as "Booma lacka, Booma lacka Whack! Whack! Whack!" He loves the illustrations of the dinosaurs, since he's big into dinosaurs at the moment. But even if your child is not into dinosaurs, he/she will love hearing this book or reading this book aloud. And I have to admit, because the book flows off the tongue with such entertaining, dancy rhythms, both my husband and I LOVE to read this book to our son. It's so important when you're a parent, to buy books you yourself can stand to read over and over and over to your child, and not get bored. "Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp" is one book I enjoy reading to my son EVERY TIME.

This book is a favorite in our house. A must for all dinosaur book fans, and a great book for everyone else. The pictures are really colorful and the expressions on the dinosaur's faces are great. My three year old son loves looking at the different dinosaurs and telling me what they're feeling and thinking. There are dinosaurs for everyone in this book. It's hard to find books that break out of the typical stories and themes. This one is has a unique story and catchy verse. (The first time you read it you may stumble over a dinosaur name or two but nobody who cares is listening, and you'll get plenty of practice the next 1000 times through the story.)

This book is a blast to read aloud to a child. My four year old daughter loves this book, and is now reading it aloud to me. The story is based on a group of dinosaurs going to a party. And what a party it is. They dance and create an earthquake. The illustrations are as good as the story,an uptempo good-time book. If you know a child fond of dinosaurs, this should be the first dino-story you buy. Trust me, I've read and heard this story over one hundred times, and each time is as much fun as the first.

My nieces and nephew love this book and read it every Saturday night. The rhyming and rhythm is much fun; and the book introduces all of the long, sometimes, tongue-twisting dinosaur names in a fun way. I have selected this book as the one to give to all new parents as a baby gift.

My son brought this book home from the library weekly for six months. We bought the book and read it nightly. It has great pictures, is a quick read, and rhymes.
