4.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Great Gift!
I think this is a great book for any college football fan. I like the way the book is organized. All the facts and memories on each stadium make it a good and easy read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shrines visually disappointing, November 16, 2005
This review is from: Saturday Shrines: Best of College Football's Most Hallowed Grounds (Hardcover)
I must admit, I was quite looking forward to receiving this book. In turn, I was somewhat disappointed when I did. While the commentary and general narrative was reasonably informative, I found the photographic quality, selection, and placement somewhat disappointing. As for the picture quality - I can't say whether that is attributable to photography or printing. As for the photograph selection and placement - I thought many (while relevant to the respective stadiums' pageantry) should have been subordinated or given a back seat to truly dazzling large photographs that would have displayed the entire or at least most of the subject stadium. Great clear colorful aerials instead of cropped photos of fans and marching bands. Some of the book did have that, but in this reader's opinion, not enough. Perhaps the book could have been made on an even larger scale to allow this, whether that would mean more pages and a larger overall profile. I would pay double or more for that. For many, including me, the photograph quality, selection and placement are important factors in making such a purchase. If I had seen it in a bookstore instead of purchasing it online, I would not have bought it. Loved the idea, but not as much the execution.

3.0 out of 5 stars I've seen many of stadiums described in this book, December 12, 2006
This review is from: Saturday Shrines: Best of College Football's Most Hallowed Grounds (Hardcover)
Overall I've give this book a fair rating.

I've seen most of the most famous and biggest college football stadiums. In about 85% of them I've been able to walk out to the fifty yard line mid field and look around at the stadium. Stadiums are usually open nearly every day of the year. Probably the nicest and most interesting that I've seen are Notre Dame Stadium & the Rose Bowl. I was surprised at how many stadiums that one wouldn't suspect being the nicest or greatest were included (Army, Navy, Air Force) in this book, while Rice's & Boston College's were not and Michigan State's was one of those allowed only a one page review. The book also omits Baylor's and Texas Tech's stadiums. In my mine all football stadiums are bland compared to baseball parks.

There is a small section which includes stadiums no longer around: Syracuse, Minnesota (seen that one), and a few others.

I did enjoy the history of the expansion of the stadiums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee table book for the sports nut!, December 9, 2010
This review is from: Saturday Shrines: Best of College Football's Most Hallowed Grounds (Hardcover)
I bought this as a gift for my husband. He's not a huge reader, but he loves this book! The style is similar to the "vault" books that are popular. Not quite as intricate, but same feeling. The great thing about this book is it's good for any football fan; you don't have to search for a certain team's edition. Great conversation piece!

1.0 out of 5 stars WORST BOOK EVER, December 16, 2005
This review is from: Saturday Shrines: Best of College Football's Most Hallowed Grounds (Hardcover)
This is the most slanderous, ridiculous book I have ever seen. DO NOT BUY, unless you want to be ripped off. Or unless you're from West Lafayette, in that case, buy it because it's the only time you'll see your stadium get any pub. - Jeff
