One of the BEST Fantasy books EVER!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Saturday: The Twelfth of October (Hardcover)
I was seven years old when I found this book on the Library shelf of the High School where my father taught. I was attracted to the title because my birthday is in October and asked if he (my dad) would check it out for me. He agreed; and I took it home and read it with my mother every night before I went to bed untill it was done. Reading with my mother was a nightly ritual, and 24 years later,we still agree that "Saturday the Twelfth of October" remains one of our favorites along with all the "Wizard of OZ" books and "A Wrinkle In Time" By Madeline L. Engle. The rituals of the people that the main character Zan encounters in the "other world" the trouble her presence causes, and how, when she comes home,it seems that she has only been gone about an Hour when to her, she has been gone for weeks and weeks still sticks in my mind all these years later. Read this book,(if you can find a copy) you will not be dissapointed

Still Remember this Book after all these Years,
By A Customer
This review is from: Saturday: The Twelfth of October (Hardcover)
I read this book long ago in the 6th grade. The school librarian wanted me to review a "new book" she had gotten in and see if the students would like it. I loved it. Read it time and again. Then it went out of print and I haven't been able to find it since. But this story has always stuck with me, and I rank it up there with Heinlein, McCaffrey, Eddings, Lackey, and L'Engle. A fine book to share with my son and daughter.

I read this book long ago, but it has stayed in my memory ever since. The premise of a girl slipping into a parallel universe is both exciting and frightening. Norma Fox Mazer has a true gift for eloquent description and believable fantasy. Kids will love the book, but I guarantee that adults will also be hard pressed not to read it again and again.

an good intro to teen fantasy,

This review is from: Saturday, the Twelfth of October (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book second-hand, and my many readings of it haven't helped it's condition. Zan is a teenage girl trapped in an apartment with her extended family; she sleeps in the kitchen. After her brother reads her diary, she runs away and finds herself in another place. Zan is taken into a nearby tribe. The details of its culture are well-done, especially in regards to adulthood ceremonies and gender roles. Zan gets a more mature outlook on life, but her presence in the tribe causes trouble. After a serious incident, Zan suddenly finds herself back home on the same day but several hours after she left, even though it seems she to her she was gone for months. I was drawn to this book because I like fantasy, but it's more of a metaphor for teenage alienation issues and dealing with growing up.

I read this book years ago in middle school and am now desperately searching for a copy to read to my step-daughter. Even though it's been 20 years, I remember the story vividly. This is a title that should be put back in print!!!

This is definitely worth reading. It's geared toward girls but I think guys would enjoy reading it as well. A girl time-travels back to a simpler time and learns more about being human and becoming an adult. Very descriptive and dramatic.

Just as I remember, seeing this book again brought me back to the first time I read it. I love that it's used and looks and smells like an old library book. It's in good used condition and I'm so glad I was able to find it on Amazon. Great service!
