I purchased a Haynes and Chilton manual for the same car at the same time. Sometimes pictures from a different angle, different wording that is easier to follow, or helpful hints vary between authors. I did not get what I expected.

Haynes and Chilton are now the same publisher. The pictures even have the same sequence numbers and the verbiage is identical...

Another reviewer gave this book low marks because it was essentially the same as another book. That is a not a bad thing - that is a good thing! I greatly prefer the Haynes repair manuals because they are specific to the car in the book. The Haynes people do a complete tear down on an actual car. You don't get any generic 'stuff' - you get a complete and comprehensive repair manual for the subject car. Good pictures, good procedures, reasonable pricing, comprehensive in treatment (includes electrical diagrams which is very, very nice). I have bought several Haynes manuals over the years and just bought this one for working on my Saturn. I am delighted and can highly recommend this book (and, in fact, all the Haynes manuals).

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of information, but not the bible!, March 23, 2011

This edition of the Haynes Manual does have lots of helpful info, specifically a long section on the V-6 Timing Belt procedure. Pictures are also detailed, but this booklet will not hold your hand the whole way through. Great for intermediate and above mechanics that need a helpful hint, but I could not give it to a 14 year old and tell them to change my timing belt...I wish. For less than $10 (I got is used for $4) it is a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has paid for itself many times over, August 29, 2010

This book has paid for itself many times over. In particular, it has kept me from breaking various plastic parts by trying to remove them incorrectly. It has also helped me to better understand how my car works and was built. Great explanations with pretty good photos.

Another bonus is that there is a lot of general-purpose car-repair information in it, which has taught me (a novice) a lot.

The only bummer is that it took a few years for this book to come out - I could have used it back when my car was still "new". :)

I plan on getting a Haynes book for all future cars I own.

This review is from: Saturn L-Series 2000-2004 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (Paperback)
I bought this book to learn how to do the simple things on my Saturn and it fits the bill wonderfully. It has a lot of detailed pictures and procedures that are easy to for me understand and follow. I don't think that I'll try and rebuild the engine using their procedures (far too complicated for me) but it does give you an overview so if you do have to take it in you at least know what the mechanic is talking about or going to work on. I felt my money spent on this book was well spent, especially if you have a car that constantly has some little thing going wrong with it and you don't want to take it to the shop each time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best auto repair guide ever!, May 9, 2009
This review is from: Saturn L-Series 2000-2004 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (Paperback)
I was having issues with the fuel rail system on my car. I kept smelling gas, but could never find a gas leak. I went to the Saturn dealership and asked if there was an "O" ring inside the quick disconnects on the fuel rail. The said no, and even provided me with an exploded print of the fuel rail system - there was no "O" ring. I doubted what they said and ordered the book.

When the book arrived, I opened it to page 4-5 and started reading about the fuel rail and lines. Flipped the page, and on 4-6, the top left picture has printed under it: "Inspect the old O-ring inside the female side of the fitting: if it is cracked, torn, or deteriorated, replace it."

I replaced the O-ring in the return line, and haven't smelled gas since.

Chiltons has always been the best repair manual I have found, and once again, they came through with the proper repair. O rings come in a pack of different sizes and cost me less than $2.00!

A great guide for any do-it-yourself mechanic. Haynes breaks everything down into easy to understand words and diagrams.

I purchased a Haynes and Chilton manual for the same car at the same time. Sometimes pictures from a different angle, different wording that is easier to follow, or helpful hints vary between authors. I did not get what I expected.

Haynes and Chilton are now the same publisher. The pictures even have the same sequence numbers and the verbiage is identical. But the layout is different so a casual observer looking at these books in person might even miss that they are the same though intentionally made to appear different. Or do you have a more logical explanation why identical information has been subjected to differing layouts?

Your site should somehow identify these books as identical or trap the orders and provide the information at that time.

I feel cheated.
