Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By M. L. Goodson on June 17, 2011
Format: Paperback
I had and early 1950's edition of this book checked out from my university library for over a year. It's a great book. The cocktail recipes are interesting. Some have a bit of backstory. Many are interesting just from the standpoint of knowing what was around back in the 40's and 50's vs. what was invented since then. A great part of what makes this book interesting are the many pinup illustrations (risque, but charming by today's standard). Unfortunately, many of these were in color in the original text, but this version reproduces them in black and white. Not a deal breaker, as the original copies now fetch over $50 (and were fetching in the $200 range before this edition came out--many still are).

All and all, I would recommend this book as a fine addition to a cocktail library, but with that faint pang of disappointment.

Cheers.

PS Try the Last Word cocktail.

Printing seems to be scanned from original book as the last few letters on the ends of some lines are missing. I expected better than that
