This is my first "skull cap" but I have to assume they all aren't terribly uncomfortable? The band is tight but in a very bad way. There are two tight strings that dig in to your head, instead of a smooth band. So the band is too tight but the top part is too big and is baggy....very bad combination!!

I am a year-round outdoor runner and have put more then a few hats through the motions. The Saucony Drylete skull cap is really nice. I've worn it in temps from 20F to 50F and it has worked well everytime. As another reviewer mentioned - you might need another hat below freezing as this is not insulated (it has the thickness of one of your quick dry tech shirts).

I purchased the grey with high visibility orange and have been very please with visibility on early morning/night runs. If you run with a headlamp on night/early morning runs, you will have no trouble getting your headlamp to stay on the hat - meaning the fabric has traction enough to keep your headlamp from slipping off (an issue I have had with a couple other hats).

Other thoughts: It does run rather big size-wise. Mind you it will adjust to fit anyone's head, but there is a lot of fabric so if you want a tight fit and you have a small head, you are probably going to have a little extra on top. I have a fairly large head and it stretches comfortably and easily clear down to eyebrow level which is nice for keeping cold air off your forehead if you are prone to headaches from cold air on your temples.

Lastly, I use this even in warmer temps 50-60F while cycling - it really does a great job of keeping the sweat off my face - and wicks it away really nicely.

This is the perfect hat for temperatures between 30 and 45 when you want to keep the heat in and cover up your ears. There is a soft headband around the ears that does provide nice warmth to your ears, but the top of the hat is pretty thin and doesn't really provide enough warmth for running when it's below 30.

I have a huge head and this thing fits great so if you have a small head you might find it a little big, though it's so stretchy it probably doesn't even matter. Definitely recommend this hat for the cool, but not cold, runs.
