Selecting shoes is a very personal thing, but I tend to find that most people tend to like the way a particular brand feels and fits; for me that brand is Saucony. This is my third pair, and by far my favorite. I tend to do mid-long distance runs (5-10 mi) 2 - 3 times a week, and I like a lightweight shoe for that. I've run in the Grid A2/A3/A4 series shoe as well as the Kinvara, and I find the Grid A3 to be a bit too light and lacking of support, while the outsole on the Kinvara isn't very durable. This shoe provides just that right amount of support without adding much weight over the Grid A3s, and has a much better outsole than the Kinvara. The one downside would be the perforated outsole: while great in the summer, you can't really run in the wet or snow because of (end up with cold, wet feet).

The saucony grid fastwitch 4 is much better than new fastwitch 5. I hope that fastwitch 6, back to last model.

I run everything in these. I use them as my daily trainer, mostly on trails, sometimes on roads. I run marathons in them; I even ran my first 100-mile trail race in them! They're just the perfect, neutral, lightweight, cushioned shoe. Alas, the Fastwitch 5 is a completely different shoe, based on the Kinvara platform.

I am on my 10th pair of Fastwitch 4s. As they are somehow available again online, after being unavailable for several months, I have stocked up; I've got 5 more pairs unopened in the closet. Structurally the shoes are pretty durable, but for me they start to lose cushioning and feel dead around 300 miles. This is not unreasonable; they are designed as racing flats. I have friends that use them far longer, however.

It's unfortunate that you don't seem to be able to get that classic Saucony cushioned fit anymore, at least in a lightweight shoe. The Type A line and the Fastwitch line now have significantly lowered heels and less cushioning. That's great for some, but not for me (~3:00 marathoner). But -- again, somehow, here these shoes are, back from the dead!
