1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely complicated, no useful technical support September 7, 2011
I got this app to help me stream media onto my Roku from my computer. I am an average computer user, and I pride myself on being able to troubleshoot a few things by myself. The roConnect website offered almost no guidance on how to use the application. All I could find were endless videos and graphics talking about how great the application was, which would have been helpful if I could get the application to run. I experienced half a dozen issues with creating a server, indexing my videos, and trying to find my Roku in the device list. The roConnect website "Support" section had about 10 FAQs, none of which were related to issues I was having. I tried using the Google groups for roConnect to see the issues others were having and how they were solved, but almost every thread with my issue ended up with no resolution and a representative from the company saying they had never seen that issue before, and they would have to look into it. I even enlisted the help of my roommate (who works on computers for a living, specifically servers), and even he could not resolve the issues I was having with roConnect.
In summary, don't bother with this terrible application. There are better ones out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars won't run on my 2.3.1 tablet. July 25, 2011
"There was an error connecting to the server to validate your trial"....with a 'buy now' button, so no trial, uninstalled.

17 years as a computer and networking specialist for a major communication company. I write technical documents for a living. The instructions seem to start in the middle and make way too many assumptions. It's not the step by step I'd like to have. I'm on day 2 and still haven't been able to configure this correctlty, or connect to my 3 ROKU devices. I managed to get to the point where it looks like it sees all 3 devices, but when I hit "connect", nothing happens. Why in the world would they make a "channel" virtually impossible for the average user to get going. Judging by some of the ID's on the software, it appears this was developed out of the country or by a foreign engineer that assumes way too much about the networking and server skills of the end users. The average person would not even know what an apache server is or does, yet they have 4-5 drop down menus to configure the apache setting. I'm both baffled and disappointed. When I'm away from work, I just want to click on it and have it work. This feels like I'm at work. I have some old digital home movies that would be great to run through the ROKU at family reunions. I guess I'll have to have everyone stand around my 19 inch monitor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works January 22, 2012
During setup I saw a lot of users that didn't like roConnect because they couldn't get the server setup. I had issues at first but using the roConnect FAQs I was able to start streaming through my ROKU2 to most of my hand held devices. Video quality has been decent thus far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but a little cumbersome to setup December 28, 2012
I am not a computer professional, but I was able to get roConnect working with little trouble. I just followed the step by step instructions on the web site and had no problems getting the server software installed and working. Once setup, the streaming performance is flawless.
The documentation is clear enough, but you really need to read it and follow along while you get the product installed. This is not the kind of product that can be installed and configured without reading directions.

It was a bit more complicated than I would have liked, but I have had a lot more trouble setting up other products. Upgrading to a new version was a pain though. I lost all of my settings and had to reconfigure the software. Apparently the latest release has a more automated upgrade process. Let's hope so.

Also, I had a problem when my computer was restarted and assigned a new IP address. The software required a new configuration setting. The solution is straightforward, but the diagnosis was a pain. The problem took a 15 minutes to figure out the first time it happened, but is easy to maintain under the product settings once you know what to look for.

This is a less than polished product and certainly not intuitive to setup, but for the price I paid I am happy to tinker with it a bit. There are better, easier to use products out there, but the other solutions are a lot more expensive.
