Book Description

Part of the Saunders Pyramid to Success for NCLEX-PN series, this unique and comprehensive review program prepares students for the NCLEX-PN examination. Extremely popular, this outstanding review book focuses specifically on material featured in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing's most recent NCLEX-PN test plan. Content examines all aspects of practical nursing including maternity, pediatric, medical-surgical, psychiatric, and gerontologic. The companion CD-ROM contains all 1,800 multiple-choice questions from the text plus over 1,200 additional practice questions.
  • Key terms defined at the beginning of each chapter give students a quick review of each content area.
  • Bulleted items located throughout the content outlines identify content that typically appears on the exams.
  • Pyramid to Success sections at the beginning of each chapter or major unit provide an overview of the chapter, guidance and direction regarding the focus of review in the content area, and its relative importance to the current NCLEX-PN text plan.
  • 13 chapters on pharmacology, a medication and intravenous calculation chapter, and a pediatric medication calculation chapter provide practice for the increased emphasis on pharmacology on the current NCLEX-PN.
  • The text and CD-ROM provide 3,000 practice questions - more than any other review book available.
  • The text contains a comprehensive exam consisting of 300 questions related to all content areas in the book and representative of the percentages identified in the NCLEX-PN test plan.
  • Each question in the book provides a correct answer, rationales for all responses, a test-taking strategy, the level of cognitive ability, integrated concept/process, category of Client Needs, and a reference to a major nursing textbook.
  • A unit on The Adult Client with an Immune Disorder includes all the content related to the immune system and immunologic medications, so students can easily locate and focus on these critical areas.
  • Approximately 70 new Critical Thinking/Free-text entry questions help students master prioritizing, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, reflecting this component of the new test plan for NCLEX-PN.
  • The CD-ROM allows the use of the mouse to answer practice questions and includes a drop-down calculator - much like the new NCLEX-PN exam.
  • Enhanced with a new testing mode, the CD-ROM features approximately 25 figures or illustrations with accompanying questions that can be answered with the click of the mouse.
  • The CD-ROM allows students to practice using three modes - Quiz, Study, and Exam. Questions are randomly selected from specific content area, integrated concept/process area, or category of client needs.
  • In the Exam mode, students can test across the entire spectrum of content, review their raw score and the time to complete the exam, and print out results and questions with answers.

More About the Author

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming either a nurse or teacher. Initially, I chose to become a nurse because I wanted to help others, especially those who were ill. Then I realized that both of my dreams could come true: I could be both a nurse and a teacher. So I pursued my dreams.
I received my diploma in nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Afterwards, I worked at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and cared for clients in acute medical-surgical units, the intensive care unit, the emergency department, pediatric units, and other acute care units. Later, I received an associate degree from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, my BSN from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and my MSN from Anna Maria College, Paxton, Massachusetts, with a dual major in Nursing Management and Patient Education. I received my PhD candidacy status in Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I am doing research related to success on the NCLEX®. I am also a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key International Honour Society, the Western Institute of Nursing, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
As a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, I began my teaching career as an instructor of medical-surgical nursing and leadership-management nursing at Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing in 1981. In 1989 I relocated to Rhode Island and began teaching medical-surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing to RN and LPN students at the Community College of Rhode Island. Later in 1994, I began teaching nursing at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island and remain there as an adjunct faculty member.
My experiences as a student, nursing educator, and item writer for the NCLEX exams, aided me as I developed a comprehensive review course to prepare nursing students and graduates for the NCLEX examination. In 1991, I established Professional Nursing Seminars, Inc., and in 2000, I established Nursing Reviews, Inc. Both companies are dedicated to conducting review courses for the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN examinations and assisting nursing graduates to achieve their goals of becoming Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
Today, I conduct review courses for the NCLEX examinations throughout New England and am the author of numerous successful review products published by Elsevier. I hope that you will use these review products and join me with your journey to success in testing for nursing examinations and for the NCLEX® examination!

I FOUND THE BOOK TO BE A GREAT HELP TO ME AND MY STUDY GROUP. I EVEN USED THE BOOK TO PREPARE FOR MY FINAL EXAM AND FOUND IT TO BE AN ESSENTIAL TOOL WHICH HELPED ME A GREAT DEAL. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE SEEN OUT THERE IN REGARDS TO NCLEX BOOKS. THE DISK THAT COMES WITH THE BOOK IS ALSO GREAT, WITH 3000 QUESTIONS THAT HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE BOARDS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL LPN STUDENTS ITS WORTH GETTING YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE WITH A MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST, January 12, 2006

This review is from: Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-PNŽ Examination, 2e (Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-PN) (Paperback)
I have purchased two other review books for the NCLEX and I can say, without a doubt, this is the BEST! This book covers everything you need to know. There are practice tests with answers after each chapter so you can review what you have studied and determine if you feel confident enough to go on, or if you need some additional time on the subject. The CD is very beneficial as well. You can take quizes, study tests and even a 100 question exam. The exams are timed, so you learn to pace yourself for the "real thing". I cannot say enough how impressed I am with this study guide. If you are still a nursing student, this book can be a real asset when studying for exams as well!!

This review is from: Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-PNŽ Examination, 2e (Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-PN) (Paperback)
Believe me when I tell you that this is "the" guide to study for NCLEX. You will pass your boards if you make dedicated reading time from this book and practice with the test disc. It will also help you if you combine it early on with your nursing studies. No other study guide compares to this one, it is worth your money!
