Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination is the bestselling nursing review book, providing content review along with thousands of questions. All questions include detailed rationales and comprehensive test-taking strategies which provide guidance for how to best approach each question. The new edition parallels the 2004 NCLEX Examination Test Plan, with the inclusion of Alternate Item Format questions, more pharmacology content, and new questions on leadership, delegation, and patient care prioritization. The enclosed CD-ROM allows you to answer questions in three different modes: Quiz, Study, and Exam.
  • Text and accompanying CD-ROM provide a total of 4,000 practice questions - more than any other comprehensive review book. The CD-ROM includes all 1,800 questions from the book, plus over 2,200 more.
  • Every question includes a correct answer, rationales for all responses, test-taking strategy, level of cognitive ability, integrated process, category of client needs, and reference to a major nursing text.
  • Alternate item format questions, including fill-in-the-blank, multiple-response, and illustration questions, provide exposure to these new formats on the NCLEX-RN exam.
  • A comprehensive exam consists of 265 questions with content areas in the same percentages as the current NCLEX-RN test plan.
  • Pharmacology is emphasized, with 13 pharmacology chapters, a medication and intravenous calculation chapter, and a pediatric medication calculation chapter.
  • Pyramid to Success sections provide an overview of each chapter plus a focused guide for review.
  • Pyramid Terms offer a quick review of key content areas.
  • Pyramid Points, located throughout the content outlines, identify content that typically appears on the NCLEX-RN exam.
  • A chapter written by a student who recently passed the NCLEX-RN exam offers perspective on overcoming anxiety.
  • A drop-down calculator is included on CD-ROM, to assist in answering medication questions.
  • CD-ROM allows practice in quiz, study, or exam modes, with questions selected from content area, integrated process, or category of client needs.
  • Addresses issues and areas of difficulty for the foreign-educated nurse in a new, separate chapter.
  • Emphasizes leadership, delegating, and prioritizing client care, reflecting the new focus on the Board exam.
  • Adds leadership/management and community coding categories to the CD-ROM - important areas on the exam.

More About the Author

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming either a nurse or teacher. Initially, I chose to become a nurse because I wanted to help others, especially those who were ill. Then I realized that both of my dreams could come true: I could be both a nurse and a teacher. So I pursued my dreams.
I received my diploma in nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Afterwards, I worked at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and cared for clients in acute medical-surgical units, the intensive care unit, the emergency department, pediatric units, and other acute care units. Later, I received an associate degree from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, my BSN from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and my MSN from Anna Maria College, Paxton, Massachusetts, with a dual major in Nursing Management and Patient Education. I received my PhD candidacy status in Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I am doing research related to success on the NCLEX®. I am also a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key International Honour Society, the Western Institute of Nursing, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
As a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, I began my teaching career as an instructor of medical-surgical nursing and leadership-management nursing at Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing in 1981. In 1989 I relocated to Rhode Island and began teaching medical-surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing to RN and LPN students at the Community College of Rhode Island. Later in 1994, I began teaching nursing at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island and remain there as an adjunct faculty member.
My experiences as a student, nursing educator, and item writer for the NCLEX exams, aided me as I developed a comprehensive review course to prepare nursing students and graduates for the NCLEX examination. In 1991, I established Professional Nursing Seminars, Inc., and in 2000, I established Nursing Reviews, Inc. Both companies are dedicated to conducting review courses for the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN examinations and assisting nursing graduates to achieve their goals of becoming Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
Today, I conduct review courses for the NCLEX examinations throughout New England and am the author of numerous successful review products published by Elsevier. I hope that you will use these review products and join me with your journey to success in testing for nursing examinations and for the NCLEX® examination!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch!, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN(r) Examination (Paperback)
Without a doubt this book is a must for nursing students or those preparing to take the NCLEX. I have used it tirelessly to study for tests through nursing school and it has proven invaluable. I like that the book is split up into sections by topic. Not all NCLEX books are designed this way. I also like that at the beginning of each chapter there is an outline defining all the necessary information needed to critically think through questions. It's like having all your years of nursing school compiled into one book! Following each topic summary there are NCLEX type questions with answers that follow at the end of the chapter. Answers contain rationale as to why the given answer is the correct one. Probably most helpful are the test taking strategies. For anyone who has taken a standardized test such as the SAT or GRE you know it's all about knowing how to take the test...knowledge is secondary. FInally, the CD that comes with the book is great. In addition to the questions printed in the book, it gives you about 50 more questions per section to answer. Bottom line...get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best review book ever!, February 15, 2006
This book is the best. I just got it last week and already it has helped me a lot. There are priority questions where you list things in numbered order ,which is new for the boards. There are also pictures with questions, which is also new. Studying for my first exam this level(3 out of 4) with this book was even more helpful than I anticipated. I got to the test and noticed many familiar questions being asked and I sat there thinking, thank god I studied that review book. Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the one to use, July 19, 2005
This review is from: Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN(r) Examination (Paperback)
I purchased Mosby's review and got about halfway through before I threw it in the trash. (The questions were written very poorly.) I got Saunders Review and the Q&A Review and found them to be much more consistent and resembled the NCLEX questions closely. Don't waste your money on any other review book; this will get you where you need to be. I passed my boards in 75 questions.
