The Saunders Pyramid to Success for NCLEX-PN series offers a unique and comprehensive review program for students who are preparing for the NCLEX-PN examination.

Written and organized to address specific elements included in the most recent NCLEX-PN test plan, this popular book/CD-ROM review package is designed to provide students with more than 3,000 NCLEX-PN practice questions in a truly unique format. Chapters in the book are organized according to the client needs categories and the integrated concepts and processes identified in the most recent NCLEX-PN test plan. It features practice questions, answers, and detailed rationales on the same page to provide immediate feedback on students' responses. Rationales for both correct and incorrect responses, along with test-taking strategies, help students learn from their mistakes and develop an effective approach to the exam. Each Q&A chapter also contains examples of the new NCLEX Alternate Item Formats, including fill-in-the-blank, multiple-response, and illustration questions. The CD-ROM contains all 1,500 questions from the book, plus an 1,500 additional practice questions.
  • The book and accompanying CD-ROM provide more than 3,000 practice questions, offering a thorough preparation for the NCLEX-PN exam.
  • Every question in the book and on the CD-ROM provides a correct answer, rationales for all responses, test-taking strategy, level of cognitive ability, Integrated Concepts and Processes category, category of Client Needs, and reference to a major nursing textbook.
  • Content presents introductory chapters on the NCLEX exam (written by a student who recently passed the exam), the CAT exam, and test-taking skills.
  • Questions help students develop the reading, critical thinking, and analytical skills they need to succeed on the exam.
  • Specific references for every question make further study easier.
  • A comprehensive exam is included and offers 85 questions that are representative of the percentages identified in the NCLEX-PN test plan.
  • The CD-ROM contains all 1,500 questions from the book, 1,500 additional questions with answers and rationales, and a drop-down calculator for answering questions that require a medication calculation.
  • Approximately 15 Illustrations Questions - figures or illustrations with accompanying questions, to be answered with "point and click" of the mouse - are provided on the CD-ROM to reflect another new feature of the NCLEX-PN exam.
  • The CD-ROM also allows students to practice using three modes - Quiz, Study, and Exam. Questions are randomly selected from specific content area, category of integrated concepts and processes, or category of client needs. In the Exam mode, students can test across the entire spectrum of content, review their raw score and the time to complete the exam, and print out results and questions with answers.
  • The new NCLEX Alternate Item Formats - fill-in-the-blank, multiple-response, and illustration questions - have been added to provide students with practice on mastering prioritizing, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, and to help prepare students for these additional question types included on the NCLEX-PN exam.
  • Two new chapters address six concepts and processes fundamental to the practice of nursing - Nursing Process, Caring, Communication and Documentation, Cultural Awareness, Self-Care, and Teaching/Learning - now identified and integrated throughout the four major categories of Client Needs in the most recent NCLEX-PN test plan.

More About the Author

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming either a nurse or teacher. Initially, I chose to become a nurse because I wanted to help others, especially those who were ill. Then I realized that both of my dreams could come true: I could be both a nurse and a teacher. So I pursued my dreams.
I received my diploma in nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Afterwards, I worked at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and cared for clients in acute medical-surgical units, the intensive care unit, the emergency department, pediatric units, and other acute care units. Later, I received an associate degree from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, my BSN from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and my MSN from Anna Maria College, Paxton, Massachusetts, with a dual major in Nursing Management and Patient Education. I received my PhD candidacy status in Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I am doing research related to success on the NCLEX®. I am also a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key International Honour Society, the Western Institute of Nursing, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
As a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, I began my teaching career as an instructor of medical-surgical nursing and leadership-management nursing at Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing in 1981. In 1989 I relocated to Rhode Island and began teaching medical-surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing to RN and LPN students at the Community College of Rhode Island. Later in 1994, I began teaching nursing at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island and remain there as an adjunct faculty member.
My experiences as a student, nursing educator, and item writer for the NCLEX exams, aided me as I developed a comprehensive review course to prepare nursing students and graduates for the NCLEX examination. In 1991, I established Professional Nursing Seminars, Inc., and in 2000, I established Nursing Reviews, Inc. Both companies are dedicated to conducting review courses for the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN examinations and assisting nursing graduates to achieve their goals of becoming Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
Today, I conduct review courses for the NCLEX examinations throughout New England and am the author of numerous successful review products published by Elsevier. I hope that you will use these review products and join me with your journey to success in testing for nursing examinations and for the NCLEX® examination!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Review Book, June 27, 2007
This is a great review book for the LPN exam. The format is very easy to use, and I love the fact that you do not have to search through the book, or flip to the back to find the answers and rationals as they are on the same page as the question. The information is up-to-date, and the rationals are informative and helpful.

This book helped me pass the NCLEX-PN last summer. I highly recommend it. Great because you don't have to flip back and forth for the answers and rationales. LOVE IT! The disc is full of excellent questions, too.

I wish they made one for NCLEX-RN.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay Book, April 28, 2008
Saunders has two books out that I am aware of. This one and a Comprehensive review. The comprehensive review goes into more detail and has more questions for your money. This book is good, but I have found that most of these questions are in the comprehensive book as well.
