5.0 out of 5 stars Big applause!, May 14, 2004
This book is crucial to the life of a medical transcriptionist. Updated annually, as the world of pharmaceuticals changes on an ongoing basis, Saunders has the king of drug word books. They cross-reference medications, list info for the generic and brand name drugs under each (e.g. "acetominophen" and "Tylenol" with same info) to minimize double-lookup, unlike the so-called "Quick Look Drug Book." Experimental drugs and discontinued products are listed together with the rest, so one does not have to access a separate appendix. Strengths of dosage (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.) are given, generics are not capitalized, etc., all critical info for an MT. Also included is a "sound-alike" list as well as "sound-alike" info within each individual entry, which often is very helpful. There are other similar publications out there and I've tried several, but Saunders is clearly the best IMO for the transcriptionist's needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Transcriptionists Best Friend, September 18, 2005
By
This book is GREAT for anyone who is in the medical field, but especially for medical transcriptionists. It is a very user friendly book, and the "sound alikes" at the end are great. I would recommend this book to anyone who works in the medical field as either a transcriptionist or nurse, etc. It will make your life much easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great help, August 2, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am forever looking up pharmaceutical names- doctors do not always spell them correctly- so this is very helpful. It has dosages which are helpful also. I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, August 1, 2007
By
I recently completed my studies in Medical Transcription. I knew I wanted to get a drug book eventually, but I wasn't sure which one I wanted to buy. I went to a MT seminar where there were donated medical books for sale at just a fraction of the price you would pay new. There were several different drug books there. After looking them over, I finally decided to purchase this one. This book is incredibly easy to use. One thing I really like about this book is that only proper drug names are capitalized. Generic or antiobiotic drug names are not. That is something that I found really frustrating with some of the online drug websites. All the drugs were capitalized. When I was doing my transcription practice, I would have to do an extra step. I would have to look it up on the prescription drug cite and then in my medical dictionary. I frequently found myself questioning whether or not a particular drug is supposed to be capitalized or not. This book has eliminated that problem. All the drugs are in alphabetical order and each listing also says what the drug is used for, the forms it comes it(pill, suspension liquid, IV etc) and also the dosage. I also like that the font is easy to read. It is also not overly small. I also like that the drug name is in bold. This makes it very easy to find. I know that some of the other drug book have much smaller print than this one.

As I said before, I have looked at several different drug books since starting my studies in Medical Transcription. In my opinion, the Saunders book is the best.

This pharmacy drug book helps me out a lot with my medical transcription job I do from home. It has the generic in lower case so I know when I am transcribing if I should capitalize it or not. It has the doses that the medication comes in and that helps. I like this book the best from all the other pharmacy drug books I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saunders Pharmaceutical Word 2008, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book 2008, 1e (Paperback)
I am a medical transcriptionist and I buy this book every year. It is a wonderful quick reference. When using the Internet I have found drugs can come up with multiple spellings. To prevent multiple Internet searches, I use this book for accurate spelling of drugs.
