More About the Author

As a child, I always dreamed of becoming either a nurse or teacher. Initially, I chose to become a nurse because I wanted to help others, especially those who were ill. Then I realized that both of my dreams could come true: I could be both a nurse and a teacher. So I pursued my dreams.
I received my diploma in nursing at Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts. Afterwards, I worked at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and cared for clients in acute medical-surgical units, the intensive care unit, the emergency department, pediatric units, and other acute care units. Later, I received an associate degree from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, my BSN from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, and my MSN from Anna Maria College, Paxton, Massachusetts, with a dual major in Nursing Management and Patient Education. I received my PhD candidacy status in Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and I am doing research related to success on the NCLEX®. I am also a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key International Honour Society, the Western Institute of Nursing, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
As a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, I began my teaching career as an instructor of medical-surgical nursing and leadership-management nursing at Baystate Medical Center School of Nursing in 1981. In 1989 I relocated to Rhode Island and began teaching medical-surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing to RN and LPN students at the Community College of Rhode Island. Later in 1994, I began teaching nursing at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island and remain there as an adjunct faculty member.
My experiences as a student, nursing educator, and item writer for the NCLEX exams, aided me as I developed a comprehensive review course to prepare nursing students and graduates for the NCLEX examination. In 1991, I established Professional Nursing Seminars, Inc., and in 2000, I established Nursing Reviews, Inc. Both companies are dedicated to conducting review courses for the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN examinations and assisting nursing graduates to achieve their goals of becoming Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
Today, I conduct review courses for the NCLEX examinations throughout New England and am the author of numerous successful review products published by Elsevier. I hope that you will use these review products and join me with your journey to success in testing for nursing examinations and for the NCLEX® examination!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent study guide!, March 2, 2007

This review is from: Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination Edition 3 (Paperback)
This book separates categories to study weak areas and has a comprehensive test at the end. I did not use the CD; I just put a piece of paper over the answer and answered all the questions on the page and then went over the rationale if I got one wrong. This is the only book I used to prepare for NCLEX and I passed in 75 questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST REVIEW BOOK, September 24, 2007
This review is from: Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination Edition 3 (Paperback)
I've never written a review of a book before, but I felt myself compelled to write one on this book. I am currently looking for another review book and I can't find one that compares to this Q&A book. The book is actually broken down into sections like the boards. It's not broken down into sections on different systems (resp, cardiovascular, etc.) like most books. Whats the point in studying or practicing questions that are broken down into systems when that is not what the real boards are like? Also the book gives good rational and test taking strategies like eliminate 2&4 because they are similar. Basically this is the best book I've found ... Buy it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great questions and explanations to prepare for NCLEX-RN, August 21, 2007
By
Dnguyen (Honolulu, HI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination Edition 3 (Paperback)
I bought several books to prepare for NCLEX, but I liked this book the best. I used other books and my notes from school to review contents, and used this book to practice questions. It does not cover each system one by one like nursing textbooks, but rather the chapters are organized in the NCLEX way (e.g. client needs, safe and effective care environment, health promotion, psychosocial integrity, etc.). I did not use CD as much as I planned at the time of purchase because the characters were small and made my eyes tired. (The characters on real NCLEX were bigger and clearer on the screen than this software.) I did not have any problem with this CD like the other reviewers. The book alone has 1810Qs, and they were more than enough for me. Although this book is thick (about 1 1/2 inches) and heavy, I liked the fact that I could take it to anywhere to study. I recognized several NCLEX questions similar to what I practiced in this book, and I passed in 75Qs!
