The title says it all. I remember this song from my high school days, rural wisconsin, I was the only bicycle racer in the school, it was not a cool thing. I had these really great friends though, especially Tim. We would drive into OSHkosh for a 'wild friday night, in the 'horse van' (it was a truck for transporting horses, it said "caution: horses" on it. (i wish i could get that truck back, i would drive it every day)). We loved this song. Learnd to play it on the casio keyboard. This is the quintessiential transition between 70's rock and 80's rock/pop. This should be on the required list for every student of 80's pop/punk culture.

I never got to california (to live), but i know it would never have been as good as this.

This song came out when I was in high school and I fell in love with it. I still love it. It's a very up-tempo song with a memorable guitar riff and fun lyrics that tell the story of a road trip on the California Coast in an old Rambler: "I'll have a burger and a root beer. You feed the heap some other grade." I don't know how this didn't become a bigger hit when it was first released. But, almost as soon as this song was released, it disappeared along with the band that recorded it. Hard to believe this wasn't even an American band! They captured the feel of the American road trip perfectly. This is one of those songs that belongs on everyone's Summer Vacation mix tape. Or flash drive.
