Book Description

Leisure Historical Romance February 2005
A New York Times Bestseller

Lovely Shoshana had been ripped from the arms of her Apache people to be raised as a white woman, far from the rushing waters and soaring mountains she had known as a child. But when she returned to Arizona Territory, a perplexing dream began to haunt her; a vision of a golden eagle carrying her mother to safety and beckoning her home. Despite her adoptive father's warnings, Shoshana knew she must answer the mysterious call.

4.0 out of 5 stars fine "Storm" tale, January 25, 2005
This review is from: Savage Courage (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the Arizona Territory Colonel George Whaley leads a massacre of the Apache. One tribesman Storm watches the military slaughter his people and kill his parents. Now the chief of his tribe Storm vows to avenge the deaths of his parents and his people at the hands of the soldiers.

Storm sees his opportunity to begin avenging what Whaley did to his family when he abducts half-breed Shosona, the daughter of his enemy. To his shock, however, Storm is attracted to Shosona. She reciprocates his deepest feelings. While Storm's plans go awry because he is in love, the Colonel is coming to destroy his foe.

The cast is realistic whether they are the protagonists, the antagonists, or secondary characters running the gamut of the tribe, the military, or white civilians. The story line is deep and descriptive bringing to life the first decade following the Civil War in a vivid manner as few tales do. However, as with seemingly the entire "Storm" novels, one size fits all as the plot comes out of the Cassie Edwards' Indian romance mold. Still fans of the series and someone who has never read Ms. Edwards before will take immense delight in this picturesque tale of love and hate in 1873 in the Southwest United States.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fluff. Nothing more, July 14, 2010
This review is from: Savage Courage (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book after it was given to me by a fan of the author. The description, was quite more alluring then the tale, I can promise you that. It was a painful read. Shortly after meeting the main character,Shoshana, I knew that reading was going to be more of a chore. Shoshana lacks depth. There is an admiration for someone who wants to make a drastic change in there life, but this is all Shoshana has. She show's no true emotion, though it may say she feels one way or another. There's a big difference between telling a reader the story and showing the story, and that's what I feel has happened here. The main characters shouldn't annoy you. You should form some kind of connection with them. With this book, I didn't want to.

There are major set ups for rising action, but they never really even take off. The action of the story just remains as a flat line. And what does happen is very predictable. There is no suspense for the reader. Even the romance scenes are as cookie cutter as can be. Sadly after a while nothing was appealing. With Edwards' background I expected something much more. Something "Real". But everything in this book falls short.

2.0 out of 5 stars How predictable, July 11, 2006
This review is from: Savage Courage (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm fascinated by native american novels, as well as good romances. I also understand that the author writes her novels in liesure, but i didn't find this book at all entertaining. i read through it quickly hoping it would get better, but to no avail.

All the events that ensued were extremely predictable with little build up. Just one thing after the next as the characters guessed. i was also annoyed with the heroine. she was dumb and thick headed, i was thoroughly perturbed by her decisions.

The plot however was alright, the execution and story telling was lacking.
