Good product, but out of date, January 30, 2010
This review is from: The Savage Frontier Fr5 (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons : Forgotten Realms, No 9233) (Paperback)
This book came out in 1988. It was a good book at the time that it came out, and included two very nice maps.
However, in 1996 a boxed set came out called The North guide to the savage frontier. The North boxed set contains all of the information from the 1988 Savage Frontier book. That information has been updated, plus lots more new information has been added, along with more maps. If you're trying to choose a good product that describes the North, leave the 1988 book alone, and go buy The North boxed set! You'll be much happier that way.
You should also get Volo's guide to the North. It is an excellent book that would be very complimentary to either the 1988 Savage Frontier book, or the 1996 The North boxed set. Volo's guide to the North doesn't contain a lot of duplicate info, and it will really help flesh out your game to make the campaign come alive.

The North of the Forgotten Realms at a glance, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Savage Frontier Fr5 (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons : Forgotten Realms, No 9233) (Paperback)
This AD&D supplement provides some general information for running a role playing campaign in one of the most interesting areas of the forgotten realms. However, the book lacks a certain focus. The illustrations are pretty poor, yet there's quite a lot of useful knowledge on the area within.
