Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

How refreshing it is to discover a video collection that relies on nothing except the music--no interviews, no biographical material, no promos, just five tasty tunes presented in a clean, concise 21 minutes. So it is with Savage Garden: The Video Collection, which offers the best of the Australia-based group's mid- to late-'90s output. Released in 1998, the package includes the hits "I Want You," "To the Moon and Back," and "Truly Madly Deeply" (with lovely, sepia-toned Parisian locations), as well as "Break Me Shake Me" and "Tears of Pearls"; none of them were commercially available prior to the release of this set. Heartthrob singer Darren Hayes takes center stage most of the time, joined by longtime musical partner Daniel Jones and their other, unidentified bandmates. Given the absence of extra frills, it's up to the music to carry the proceedings--and Savage Garden's does. --Sam Graham

5.0 out of 5 stars A DVD of Savage Beauty, December 28, 1999
This review is from: Savage Garden: The Video Collection (DVD)
I first viewed Savage Garden: The Video Collection DVD last night. I've been a fan of Savage Garden since the beginning, but hadn't had a chance to see any of their videos. I was definitely impressed with this DVD. The interactive menus are cleverly designed and easy to use, and the subtitles (lyrics) are great for singing along (which I did) or for learning the words of the individual songs. There are some added features such as chapter access to songs and a profile of Savage Garden. There are five videos on this collection: To The Moon and Back, I Want You, Truly Madly Deeply, Tears Of Pearls and Break Me Shake Me. The fun of this DVD is in watching the differing hairstyles, clothes, atmospheres, and creative visions of the individual videos. Although there are no interviews or voiceovers, this collection provides a wonderful insight into Savage Garden. The music of Savage Garden represents many years of behind-the-scenes effort by instrumentalist Daniel Jones and vocalist Darren Hayes, and these videos perfectly capture the raw energy of the duo. This DVD is quickly becoming my favourite!

5.0 out of 5 stars SAVAGE GARDEN IS FANTASTIC, February 14, 1999
By A Customer
i gave savage garden 5 stars, i would have gave them 1,000 if i could. Savage Garden is the best band to ever walk the face of the earth. this video is great for a number of reasons. first, savage garden has a great way with words, the lyrics are sensational. second, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones are 2 of the most beautiful guys on earth. third, the video they have is awesome. the futuristic background in I Want You. (or thats what i think) in To The Moon and Back i love the darkness of the video and i wish i could be the chinese/japanese woman in the subway that darren is singing in her ear. in Truly Madly Deely, i ABSOLUTLY LOVE Paris. that was a great place to shoot the video for TMD. it just does something to me that i cant explain. its just sensational. Break Me, Shake Me, i LOVE the way they show the concerts right before they sing "Break Me, Shake Me". and Tears Of Pearls is great! i love darren's cyber coat. i like the concert views. i love darren's actions in that video too, like the way he dances and moves around the stage and other things. if you havent been to a concert, you should go when they are touring again. the concert i went to was GREAT! please send me mail. :-) Liz - SvgeGrdnLS@aol.com
