5.0 out of 5 stars a great live performance!
I got this DVD as a birthday gift and it's really great. I've been a savage garden fan for years, and that was the first time I could experience them performing live, in concert. Darren is a great performer and sings the whole concert without using a single playback! The concert has 17 musics and memorable moments, such as "Hold me", in which he chooses a fan...

1.0 out of 5 stars Really crappy if you're not a young girl
I listened to some of Savage Garden's CDs and thought they were OK. So I thought I'd get this DVD. Was I dissapointed! I think the other reviewers are young girls looking at the boys instead of the talent.

I got this DVD as a birthday gift and it's really great. I've been a savage garden fan for years, and that was the first time I could experience them performing live, in concert. Darren is a great performer and sings the whole concert without using a single playback! The concert has 17 musics and memorable moments, such as "Hold me", in which he chooses a fan from the audience to stay with him on the stage, and "chained to you", in which Darren performs a la elvis presley, with some dance routine.

Besides the full concert, this DVD also brings some videoclips, and an interesting documentary about the band ("parallel lives") in which you get to know Darren and Daniel better, to find out they are so different, but equally talented.

There's also 3 multi-angle on selected songs. Using this function, you can choose one, among 4, cameras to watch the performance.

This is a great DVD, and a must-have item for SG fans around the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars You MUST buy this!, June 16, 2001
By
Khi (Des Moines, IA, USA) - See all my reviews
Here's what I have to say :

SONG ORDER : 1 - The Best Thing, 2 - Break Me Shake Me, 3 - To The Moon & Back, 4 - The Lover After Me, 5 - I Don't Know You Anymore, 6 - Santa Monica, 7 - Two Beds and a Coffee Machine, 8 - You Can Still Be Free, 9 - The Animal Song, 10 - Hold Me, 11 - Gunning Down Romance, 12 - Crash and Burn, 13 - Truly Madly Deeply, 14 - Chained to You, 15 - I Want You, 16 - I Knew I Loved You, 17 - Affirmation

This is a must buy. Just thinking about it I can't stop grinning like an idiot. Let's see...helpful things to say... I Don't Know You Anymore, Santa Monica, Two Beds and a Coffee Machine, and You Can Still be Free are sang by Darren without back up singers and without the band, except for Daniel. Dan is playing the piano for those four songs.

Darren cuts Santa Monica and Two Beds and a Coffee Machine short by a few parts. But they still sound great!

Gunning Down Romance is one of my favorite, especially the way he performs it. He has just a bit too much fun playing with shadows in it :) Truly Madly Deeply was probably the only disappointment -- it was a duet with the back up singers. It should have been obvious to me that it would be, since he can't sing over himself. But other than that small thing, I LOVED IT! Chained to You was hilarious -- let's just say I never liked guys obsessing over their crotch until Darren did it.

Over all, this was the best purchase I have EVER made. If you never got a chance to see Savage Garden live, this is the best alternative! After the concert there is a documentary. Daniel speaks (as does Darren, but that's not new).

One last note -- THE BEST PART of the whole concert (in my opinion) is during The Animal Song. Just this look on Darren's face is adorable. It's when he's near Daniel and singing "There's so many rules to follow". Tell me if I'm insane, it's quite possible if I am, but I think it's just so cute. Hope this was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A worth buying DVD, February 27, 2001
This review is from: Savage Garden - Superstars And Cannonballs: Live And On Tour In Australia (DVD)
I've been a Savage Garden fan for a long while.... So I bought their first DVD as soon as I saw it on my DVD Store. But I was a bit dissapointed because I only had 5 songs, and no extras at all.

Well, this DVD was kind of a vindication. It not only includes the great concert, but also the other Music videos they released: I Knew I loved You... , Affirmation and Crash and Burn.

You can also find a documentary the group "behind the scene.".

But the option I like the most is the multi angle they include in three songs. You can see those videos from different angles during the concert, so you can play like a video editor, it's really cool.

The video quality is great, also the audio. 5.1 option rocks you out, you feel as if you were there in the middle of the concert.

The only weak point of the DVD is the lack of subtitles in the extra music videos like the first DVD. They ruined my Karaoke...:(

BTW, the DVD is not region 1, it's a multiregion DVD like almost all the Music VIdeo DVDs.

This would have to be the best concert video i ever got! And i'm not saying that because i'm the biggest SG fan! I went to there concert last summer, and this video brings back so much memories about it! If i was you, i would get it even if you aren't a big fan! You'll luv it anyway!

EXCELLENT. i dont know how anyone couldnt like this dvd even a little bit. The best concert DVD ive ever seen by far. This dvd totally captures what its like to see them in concert. Darren really projects all of his songs and doesnt leave you with a dull moment. Its obvious he loves the stage and his fans and cares about giving them a good time. His voice is so beautiful and emotional. His sound can make you laugh or cry or even be angry. Whatever he is trying to project through will eventually get to you. And i am NOT a little girl looking at the boys. Although neither of them are hard to look at, AT ALL. This DVD includes the full 90 minute concert without interruptions. Also 3 music videos, "I Knew I Loved You" a huge hit, "Affirmation", and "Crash and Burn". There's a discography of them and about 20 minutes of behind the seens footage. It shows the funny side of both of these artists, especially darren(lead singer). He is hilarious. My mother walked in the room to see what i was doing and ended up staying for the whole concert. And she rarely watches tv at all. Thats how good they are. She walked away from it a new fan. Thats just what darren does to people. Even though they no longer exist as one.If you like them a little bit then its worth your money. You will walk away from it with a new found appreciation for them both. Just give it a chance and be openminded about it and im sure you will not regret it. This is perfect memorbilia for any savage garden die hard fans. But im sure i dont have to tell that to them...im sure they already have it.Overall...it was totally awesome.

It's amazing. Of all the concert DVDs I've ever bought...this one surpasses them all. Never have I seen such artistry and pure emotional talent be so well captured by a camera. The grace and poetry in the movement and performance of Darren Hayes is one that will hold your attention throughout the show. Daniel Jones remains but a whisper of excellence in the shadows. HE's felt though not always seen. These are two men that prove that the art of a live show isn't dead and that true talent shines brighter then any special effects or flashy dances. If it doesn't captivate you....nothing will.

I have always been a fan of theirs since the start, and recently I've bought this DVD! Words can't even explain how great it is. Please if you're a fan and never seen this -buy it!! The concert is the best of concerts I've seen/been to. Then all the extras (like Parellel Lives) lets you see a side of Darren AND Daniel. You get to hear Daniel talk, which he is sweet/shy.. and of course Darren, his funny/cute traits come out! This DVD has made me love them even more & remember exactly why I've always been their fan* [Enjoy]

5.0 out of 5 stars I was there!, March 13, 2001
By
I was at the Brisbane Savage Garden concert when the footage was taken. It perfectly captures the emotion of the night - our excitement when the concert started (I get butterflies in my stomach when I watch the start of the video) and the beautiful emotion behind the music.

The documentary is fabulous. There are some really candid, honest moments. But the best thing is when Darren lets his personality shine and we see some of his flamboyance and wackiness. There are also some great insights into exactly what goes into making Savage Garden's inspiring music.

The only bad thing about the video is that even though I was at the concert where they filmed it, and I know I was filmed a lot, those shots were edited out of the final version. Oh well - that's probably for the best - not sure I really wanted to have my hyperactivity recorded on film forever!

A must have for all dedicated Savage Garden fans.

This DVD is the greatest!! It has Parallel Lives, the documentary! There are also 3 bonus music videos: "I Knew I Loved You", "Crash and Burn", and "Affirmation"! The Affirmation concert is in widescreen and you can pick which ever song that you want to listen to on the menu. If you missed the concert or not you have to get this video-DVD.

After receiving this video through their Official fan club and watching it from beginning to end.. I find myself reliving the moments that I'd seen them live and in concert, once again.. this video is very much worth it.. even if you're rather new to seeing them live.. it's very well documented and the scenes during the concert itself are totally amazing.. I highly recommend it
