I've read this author before and enjoyed her, but this one is definitely not her best. Her earlier stuff is a lot better, like so many other authors that have the countless amounts of books on the shelves that are all too similar and lacking (Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, James Patterson etc.) This novel had way too many aspects that are completely unbelievable, made up or just not truly researched. For starters, natives did not have "dishes" that had to be cleaned every night (pg. 407) or had trunks that they kept clothes in (pg. 398). The natives are too white, and I find it highly unlikely that an entire tribe in that region of the country could speak English. The main point for Jolena and her brother being there in the first place is too wild for me, a team of scientists searching for butterflies. No way! In the 1850's white people risked their lives to get to homesteads in Oregon or other areas on the west coast, not to search for a silly butterfly. I wouldn't risk my life in unexplored areas for that, with Indians and other dangers as well. Jolena herself is a witless female, who endangers her life one too many times for some stupid reason of her own creation. Whatever happened to heroines who were cleaver and got themselves out of their own sticky situations. Also, when I'm reading a romance novel I usually expect the lovers to have sex right about the middle of the book. These two were at it 100 pages in, after speaking just a few sentences to each other. Do people get to know each other before they get it on? I realize that this is fiction but I like romances that sound more believable. It will be awhile before I pick up another book by this author.

I love Cassie Edwards books. I have a huge collection of them. I re-read them over time but this is the second time I read this and I loved it even more then the last time. It was great to read the story and watch Jolena and Spotted Eagle's love for each other grow. I also like the way that she wondered in the forest after the abduction of Two Ridges and she found herself in her father's presence. I really enjoyed this book as I have all of Cassie Edward's books. I keep waiting for her new ones and have them already on pre-order.
