Book Description

This year marks the hundredth anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s publication of the first Tarzan story—and now Andy Briggs breathes new life into the legendary hero

About the Author

Andy Briggs is a British author and screenwriter. He created the Hero.com series and the Villain.net anti-series for Oxford University Publishing, which have now been published around the world.

More About the Author

Andy is officially rebooting TARZAN - bringing a fresh take to the beloved Edgar Rice Burroughs character for a new generation of readers. It will be published in Summer 2011, with another following during the Tarzan Centenary in 2012.

Andy started writing with his brother Peter Briggs - working on movie projects such as "JUDGE DREDD and "FREDDY VS JASON" and "FOREVERMAN" for Spiderman creator Stan Lee and legendary producer Robert Evans.

Andy went on to work with Gregory Novac and Bruce Timm on Warner Bros. "AQUAMAN" - while at the same time landing an eight-book deal with Oxford University Press for "HERO.COM" and "VILLAIN.NET". His childhood love of comics continues as he writes them - his first graphic novel RITUAL published by Markosia Comics, with more to come in 2011.

Currently he's working on several screenplays and getting ready to produce his first feature film.

Within the first page, one of the Mangani is referred to as an "aging silverback." TARZAN WAS NOT, REPEAT NOT RAISED BY GORILLAS. Tarzan's great apes are referred to by Burroughs as the Mangani and are described as "great manlike apes." Granted this is a species that doesn't exist in nature, but it DOES exist in the Tarzan mythos.

And, just for the record, Burroughs did use gorillas in his books, but they were called the "Bolgani." nothing like Tarzan's adopted family.

If you want to read about Tarzan, the author to look for is Edgar Rice Burroughs. Don't waste your time with this watered down, inaccurate crap.

Rip roaring adventure that continues the saga of a modern Tarzan. Since "the jungle held its breath", I can assume another book will be coming down the pipeline. Hopefully, it will be soon.

I read the original TARZAN by Edgar Rice Burroughs back when I was a kid and Disney's Tarzan came out. I must say, I never was a real Tarzan fan.

In many ways, I like the idea of a rebooted Tarzan, with modern technology and such. In execution, Andy Briggs' THE SAVAGE LANDS didn't do anything more for me than the original. I did like that Jane is very active in the series. Why, the first thing she does is save a man with a well-timed machete swing. You can certainly try this book with the young action/adventure fan in your life.

(I started in the middle of the series because I read this for an awards panel. My opinion does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the panel.)

Andy has done it again with his third book in this series. He's done an excellent job from the start taking over from what the great Edgar Rice Burroughs started. What a great way to introduce new readers to this series. I really think after reading these fine tales it would induce readers to pick up the original books. I can't wait for the next one.
