Book Description

September 9, 2006
Radio talk show host and author Michael Savage has for years been given free rein to distort facts, cherrypick information and just plain lie in supporting his radical conservative opinions. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the three books Savage considers his "legacy." But now, award-winning journalist Bill Bowman puts the truth to Savage's lies, revealing Savage's rampant egotism, sloppy research and willingness to spin "facts"out of whole cloth. This is not an attack on Savage's opinions. It is, however, a long-overdue fact checking of some of the bedrock arguments Savage uses to substantiate those opinions.

About the Author

Bill Bowman is a journalist with more than 20 years' experience covering issues on the local, state and national levels. His reporting has led to judicial findings of ethical violations and influence peddling on the part of local officials, to the expansion of financial reporting requirements of New Jersey Superior, Supreme and Tax Court judges and to the establishment of a first-in-the-nation program that provided life-saving thermal imaging cameras to every fire department and fire academy in New Jersey.

More About the Author

I'm a journalist working at the New Jersey Shore but based in Central New Jersey, where I live with my wife and our dog and cat.

During my career, I've been responsible for two pieces of legislation enacted in New Jersey: one that allowed every fire department and fire academy in New Jersey to receive, free, a thermal imaging camera, and the second, which created a searchable Web database through which consumers could research nursing homes and their owners, and have access to reports of violations and other information.

My reporting also led to the requirement that Supreme, Superior and Tax Court justices and judges file the same kind of financial disclosure forms as every other elected and appointed official in New Jersey.

I was also part of a two-reporter team that exposed massive increases in the cost to close the U.S. Army's Fort Monmouth.

My second published book, "Murderer of the Year," will be released early in 2010. It's a true, behind-the-scenes look at a murder investigation and trial involving the then-captain of a Central Jersey rescue squad and the nurse he was convicted of murdering. Along the way, the investigation exposed a behind-closed-doors life of lust and greed that shocked neighbors and friends of the victim and her murderer.

My first published book, "Savage Lies: The Half-Truths, Distortions and Outright Lies of a Right-Wing Blowhard," deconstructs the first three books written by right-wing talk radio host Michael Savage. The book is available at Amazon.com, and can be ordered wherever books are sold.

1.0 out of 5 stars The writer mostly picks on insignificant points, February 6, 2008

This review is from: Savage Lies: The Half-Truths, Distortions and Outright Lies of a Right-Wing Blowhard (Paperback)
The thesis of this book is that Michael Savage distorts and inaccurately presents information in his writings.

Although Savage is definitely passionate and often tends to overstate things in his argument by no means does it mean that he distorts them. Savage is passionate about what he writes and takes a no prisoner approach in his books.

On other hand the author of this book is just nitpicking things but does not address the bread and butter of Mr. Savage's argument.

You have a right to love or hate Savage but buying this book to "dsprove" his points would be a waste of money. Mr. Bowman's arguments are incoclusinve at best.

OK, I bought the book because I really don't like Michael Savage. But for gods sake man, if you can't find something other than emotional blather, please leave the debunking to someone who doesn't make all opponents of Savage look like idiots. This was poorly written, especially for a "journalist", and all the arguments were nothing but opinion. Yes I saw the god in the pledge stuff. But really so what? Is one omission worth a book? And badly written book at that, just thought I'd say it again. Please leave this to competent people like Alan Combs or the folks on the blogs. You were a journalist? Really?

Weapons of Mass Distortion: The Coming Meltdown of the Liberal Media
Aside from being the first listener with a Savage Fan Site,
I am one of the biggest critics of Michael, his broadcasters, his syndicator, and his own behaviour.
This book reads like some U.C. Santa Cruz freshman's BLOG. I've seen more accurate and poignant
writing from detractors such as GLAAD, and the various sucks sites. Making Do-It-Yourself
T-Shirts on Cafepress is one thing, but if your writing isn't good enough to be published professionally,
for pete sake, save some trees and post your gripes on the net...
