I'm Too Smooth!,

This review is from: Savage Life 2 (Audio CD)
Webbie is one of the sources for the much talked about hate of the Southern region of Hip Hop. He's Often dismissed as a "bling" rapper making mindless club music with no lyrical ability. Well I wouldn't quite call that dismissed more like ridicule. These statements mostly uttered by those "real hip hop fans" who hear one song and make judgment without ever hearing the album. Well I'm hear to tell you that Webbie is here to stay! His first album SAVAGE LIFE was more of a hood, ghetto album that just happened to catch on with the nation. If you heard that album it was pure unadulterated, high quality southern gangsta music complete with anthems, great beats, and great rapping. That's how we roll down here.
Savage Life 2 however is not like it's predecessor because Webbie has really grown as a rapper and this time out is more balanced and focused. His rhymes are definitely improved and his flow is as liquid as ever. His content has been upped as witnessed on Independent and especially on Just Like Me which is an ode to son where the father (webbie) is teaching his son basic father to son things like wear a rubber, watch ya back, choose ya friends well etc. I was surprised by this song but hey people do grow and change. Don't get it wrong though, Webbie still stays true to hip hop by making songs with great beats and anthems. Songs like 2 Smooth, Thuggin, I Know, Fly As An Eagle, and Six 12's definitely get the job done. BUT it's songs like Miracle, You A Trip, I Miss You ft. LeToya Luckett, and Just Like Me that make this album stand out from the rest. If you are still new to the southern region, I don't know if webbie is where you should start because he does have a thick accent, with non commercial dirty south beats and content. However, it's definitely worth a try because Savage Life 2 is a good album and it won't disappoint fans of southern music. 4.5 stars.

As my title says, webbie is still a beast in the BR. One thing that I noticed about Savage Life 2 when I listened to it is that he got a little deeper with this cd. The deep tracks on here are just like me, a miracle, and I miss you; where on this track he telling his shawty that he is missing her even though he thuggin in the streets. Don't get it twisted though cause he still got those funny thug out lines; ie; the track thuggin where he says; b**** don't tease me, if you come to my spot is you f***** if not then you leavin and f*** rap beafin, fore I put you on my cd i'll leave you a** stinkin fo sheezy. The other tracks im feeling on this cd is independent, im hot, 2 smooth; a very laid back track kind of like laid way back on his first cd, six 12's, I know, you a trip, doe doe, you a trip, just like this; where in this track webbie getting some s*** off his chest, and fly as an eagle. If you want some of that same BR thugged out music; then cop this cd.

I PLAY BOTH ALBUMS ABOUT THE SAME. I LIKE ONE A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THE OTHER BUT THEY ARE BOTH GOOD. I'M JUST GLAD THAT HE TOOK HIS TIME AND PUT OUT SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT RUSHED. I WOULD BUY HIS ALBUM JUST BECAUSE.

give it up to Webbie for getting a female empowerment anthem that much airplay. In fact Webbie's got much more up his lyrical sleeve than Southern fried haters give him credit for. Savage Life 2 has a few moments that break out of the stereotypical "money, cars, hoes" routine, most notably his ode to his son Just Like Me. The track's reminiscent of Will Smith's Just The Two Of Us, except exactly the opposite: "Sometimes I get scared/you gonna end up dead/little n***a f**k that/you gonna me just like me." Just warms the heart, doesn't it? Sorry, reality hurts, and Webbie isn't afraid to make you feel his pain.
Buy this and I recommend another Southern Playa - Devin the Dude, Smoke Sessions Vol. 1 - his first album release since leaving Rapalot and his only release ever to hit the Billboard Charts. Congrats Webbie, Congrats Devin

i have a confession i like hip hop music...this album wasn't hip hop...this was straight gangsta rap...mindless lyrics regurgitating the same old phrases about their icy chains and their 26 inch rims...this album was a piece of crap...i normally listen to east coast rap like wu-tang , jedi mind, mobb deep...and i can honestly say that i ve heard albums from 1998 that were better than this album.

This review is from: Savage Life 2 (Audio CD)
THE ALBUM IS SOOOOOOOO TIGHT!!! I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS REVIEW; IT DEFINITELY GOES HARDER THAN SAVAGE LIFE 1. I RARELY USE TO LISTEN TO RAP MUSIC UNTIL SOMEONE CAME ALONG CALLED WEBBIE....LOL...THE ALBUM IS FIRE....THE TRACKS THAT GO THE HARDEST IN MY OPINION ARE "SIX 12'S", "I KNOW", "THUGGIN", AND "DOE DOE"....I JUST LUV MY WEBBIE!!!
