I enjoyed this book very much and have past it around to all my friends who have grown up in South Florida. If you dug the clubs or the teen dances you will enjoy remembering the bands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool History of Florida Garage, February 24, 2009

This review is from: Savage Lost: Florida Garage Bands : The '60s and Beyond (Paperback)
Great place to start exploring 60's Florida Garage music. I didn't really know where to start before this (I've heard the dude at Yesterday & Today likes to keep this stuff to himself). And its a real great read- you can tell this dude cares 'bout these bands/records. The bulk of the book is discographies of records pertaining to the Florida garage scene, which is useful for digging through crates at thrift stores, I suppose, but otherwise only really useful for serious collectors--which makes it seem like a tome when its really not that long at all. The book kind of ignores the 70's, but Lemlich asks you to trust him that nothing really cool happened in that time. And his 9 page 80's treatment is okay and mentions a lot of cool bands, giving you a vague sense of what was goin on at the time. The book was published in '92 (so much for the 90's!). All in all, really cool book, full of cool anecdotes and really inspired me being a young kid living in South Florida (filled with some false sense of regional pride). Totally worth it if only for all the cool records I got turned onto and downloaded on the internet!
