Book Description

When Saria Boudreaux finds a dead body in the Louisiana bayou near her home, her first instinct is to go to the police. But there's a problem: it looks like the victim may have been killed by a big cat - and her brothers are all shape-shifting leopards.

Sent by the land's owner to investigate, leopard-shifter Drake Donovan is ready for anything - except the insatiable hunger that rocks him when he meets Saria. Deep in his soul he knows that she is destined to be his mate. Torn between protecting her brothers and finding the truth, Saria treads warily around the powerful shifter. Yet as they venture deep into the mysterious bayou on a hunt for the killer, Saria finds herself longing for Drake's touch and the sweet release of surrender . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting romantic bayou fantasy April 26, 2011
    Format:Mass Market Paperback
Saria Boudreaux grew up on the Louisiana Bayou, which may explain why she feels a special affinity to the place's eeriest secrets. However, even Saria is taken aback when she finds several corpses all containing leopard bites. She fears for her older brothers, who are were-leopards though she knows her siblings would not commit these atrocities.

Saria decides not to call the cops, but instead contacts the land owner Jake Bannaconni. He sends Drake Donovan to investigate the serial killings. At first sight (and sniff) Drake realizes that Saria is his mate as he struggles to control his euphoric inner leopard. He also senses she is on the verge of her first shift. As he makes inquiries into the murders and starts his courtship of his beloved, Drake learns a lesson about life on the Bayou when none of the leopard-shifting families including Saria's kin cooperate.

The latest Wild Leopard romantic bayou fantasy (see Wild Fire and Burning Wild) is an exciting whodunit as a serial killer stalks the Louisiana swamps. The bayou locale adds a strong sense of foreboding that feels even more uneasy with each corpse. That strong fearful strangeness accentuates the feuding shifter clans. However, the exhilarating story line belongs to the lead couple as he knows she is his mate, but must be cautious while she wonders why he has not jumped her bones.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Scintillating May 18, 2011
    Format:Mass Market Paperback
Savage Nature is the fifth novel in Christine Feehan's world of leopard shifters and it is outstanding on every level. There was action, suspense, adventure, excitement, beautifully written lead characters and well-defined supporting characters.

The female protagonist, Saria Boudreau, is such a robust and feisty heroine that the reader can relate to and root for. She is self-reliant, confident, clever, and fearless. The male lead, Drake Donovan, is a commanding alpha; he is tough, ruthless, a strong leader and he's an honorable man who wants a woman capable woman to stand at his side.

Drake and Saria had sizzling chemistry almost immediately, they fit so well as a unit that neither personality overshadowed the other. It was a delight to revisit favorite characters from the previous books and to meet exciting new characters, especially Saria's family. I hope her eldest brother Remy will eventually get his own book.

I've never been fond of marshy or humid environments but the lush descriptions of the Louisiana Bayou were so richly detailed that I felt an affinity to the wildness of the wetlands. Savage Nature hooked me from the first page. Usually, leopard males are portrayed as evil and unscrupulous character so it's nice to see leopard shifters like Drake to have a sense of honor and respect for his mate.

This is the type of excellent writing that Christine Feehan delivers so well, I look forward to the next book in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Savage Nature, krokodi fonn! May 17, 2011
    Format:Mass Market Paperback
Savage Nature, by Christine Feehan, is the fifth book in her Leopard series. While the book started out a little too "National Geographic" for, me the story does pick up as the book continues. The novel pleasantly surprised me. :)

This book is completely centered around a Louisiana bayou, so know that going into it. The accents, gators and snakes, Spanish moss, the whole shabang. Christine goes into great detail about every living thing in her story, except maybe our main squeeze Drake. I was hoping to get a little more history on his character. She mentions the rain forest and him quite a bit, but that was about the gist of it. Drake suffered a debilitating injury but I never found out how he got it. Did a vampire try and bite it off or maybe a zombie? No idea. Aside from that he was a fun character to read about, very alpha male without being a overly piggish.

I really loved Saria's character, a wild and beautiful a young woman who takes no crap from anyone but does as she sees fit. Raised by an alcoholic father and five brothers who could care less what she was doing in her youth, Saria retreats into the swamp to photograph the world around her. I enjoyed her character very much, would I love to join her in the swamp to catch some gators? Yum no. But I would definitely watch from the safety of a large boat with a shotgun in my hand. lol Drake and Saria have that nice magic I like to read in characters: the unexplainable pull, jealousy, passion, witty dialog back and forth. Add to that some Cat shifting and things get pretty hot and heavy. Meoooow. ;)

The plot of the novel is pretty solid, Saria accidentally catches the eye of a serial killer and the hunt is on to stop them and protect her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than Expected May 10, 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Feehan books for me in the last 2 years have become very lackluster. I wasn't even planning on purchasing this book, but due to an unexpected plane trip I wanted some new reading material. From the very start the action in this book caught me, and at no point did it feel forced. The romance did feel rushed, but luckily the suspense of the mystery kept me coming back wanting to read the rest. She only has 2 books coming out this year which really showed as it seemed the quality was there vs. previous years.
