Another Great Story for Cassie!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Savage Paradise (Mass Market Paperback)
I am hooked on these Historical romances stories and I believe that Cassie did a great job in this story with the plot and characters as usual. I am not a EXPERT of history and don't read her books to "pick" at the historical facts. I read to get involved with the plot and the characters. This I believe that she does a fine job with in this story. This is way I find her books so enjoyable. Good job Cassie!

Go Cassie,

This review is from: Savage Paradise (Zebra Historical Romance) (Kindle Edition)
I like the Cassie books. Like most readers, I don't read to prove how off base the writer is; I read for the pleasure of a good story. The word SAVAGE to me indicates what the early settlers called people who fought to save their lands from the Europeans. I am of Cherokee heritage and very proud of my ancestors, but it is just a title. Cassie Edwards is not trying to insult me. Get a grip all of you who are looking for accuracy in history. You can buy a good used history book from someone if all you are looking for is history. How much truth do you suppose you will find in the real history book? (I have been reading all the critiques of Cassie's books.) As I said in my title, GO CASSIE. CeeCee

Ms Edwards doesn't even give a "nod" to historical accuracy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Savage Paradise (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Edwards may have written a "romance" but there is nothing historical about it. I am told that she actually visited the site...Grand Portage Fur Post where the book is set. I can only conclude from this, that the author is both deaf and blind. There is no written record of a white woman being here in the late 1700's...definitely not one from a Virginia plantation. The caplock guns the men are carrying were not invented until a century later, and Ms. Edwards has the heroine shedding garments that were not worn until at least 50 years later. The tipoff should have been on the first page, where the raspberries are ripe in northern MN in early May....the leaves are barely on the branches here that time of year. It just went downhill from there. Apparently, Ms. Edwards was so busy fantasizing the rather repetitive love scenes, that she had no time for a little basic research into historical fact. The plot is tiresome also, with the heroine, Mariana, being abducted by one evil party or another on her way to tryst with her lover. If a book could rate negative stars on this review, I would give it a minus 5 stars.

Worst Cassie Edward book I have ever read....,

This review is from: Savage Paradise (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
If I could give this book a zero I would. The start of this book started so good. I thought it was going to become a fav. of mine, but in a matter of just one page this book went from a 5 to a one. The main problem was the heroine. I thought she was selfish through the whole book. The problem had to deal with her mother and her mothers rapist. Through the entire book Mariana is trying to justify her mothers rapist. And what really took the cake was when Mariana decided that her mother's rapist really did love her mother and he had "taken her sexually but it was done with love" and her mother just didnt grasp that. Come on, any book that tries to glorify rape is trash and that is exactly what this book is. Then later is the book when Lone Hawk's sister goes through a tragic time Mariana decides to use his sister's pain as her own selfish gain. When I usually end up not liking a book I will donate it to my local library but this book is going exactly where it needs to be the...trash!!!

I can't say that this is a great novel, but it's a nice and light read. I definitely found this book better than 'Savage Innocence'. The characters in this one were more well-fleshed and realistic. The major sore point in this book was Mariana's parentage. If she was half-Native, then one would think she would resemble that more. I also found the story about Mariana's mom and the Indian chief to be rather implausible. That part of the story felt rather contrived to me, but I did enjoy reading the story of Mariana herself and the Indian who falls in love with her. If you want to read this book, go ahead. Just check it out from a library or whatever, because after reading this book, I ended up trading it in at a used bookstore for store credit.

I didn't need to know anything before the purchase other than that I really love Cassie Edwards books.I enjoyed this book very much it showed conflict not only between the whites and indians but also between a father and daughter. It reminds me of the importance to not judge someone without getting to know them; no matter what your heritage is or the color of ones skin. I liked how Ms. Edwards describe the area of the Grand Portage fort and Lake Superior so much that I may have to take a vacation there during the summer. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did. |
