About the Author

Margaret Tanner is a multi-published Australian author. She loves delving into the pages of history as she carries out research for her historical romance novels, and prides herself on being historically accurate. No book is too old or tattered for her to trawl through, no museum too dusty, or cemetery too overgrown. Many of her novels have been inspired by true events, with one being written around the hardships and triumphs of her pioneering ancestors in frontier Australia. As part of her research she has visited the World War 1 battlefields in France and Belgium, a truly poignant experience. She won the 2007 and 2009 Author of the Year at AussieAuthors.com. A Rose In-No-Man’s Land won an un-published manuscript award. Her novel Frontier Wife won the Best Historical Romance Novel at the 2010 Readers Favorite Award, and another novel, Wild Oats was a 2011 Finalist in the EPIC awards. In 2012, an unpublished manuscript was short listed in English publisher, ChocLit’s, Find an Australian Star, competition.

4.0 out of 5 stars IT'S NOT HEARTS AND FLOWERS December 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When Elizabeth Campbell's twin brother Alistair is caught trying to steal a horse. He is prepared to run and hide out from the law. But Beth refuses to allow him to go and find more trouble. She insists she will go and talk to Martin Mulvaney the owner of the horse and reason with him. But Martin Mulvaney and the Campbell's have never got along, in fact they detest one another. But during the journey Beth is thrown from her horse and is captured by gypsies. Eventually escaping she lands on Martins doorstep. The knock to her head has caused her to suffer from amnesia, she has no memory at all not even her own name. Martin is dumbfounded as to where this delicate beauty has come from. He assumes she is a runaway from the local brothel.

Set in the 1870's in Australia, this is a love story, but it has no romance. Martin is a crude, rough and bad tempered man, who cares little for others wishes or feelings. Beth is a rather naive girl especially living in such harsh and unforgiving times. Martin is surprised when he discovers Beth is a virgin, and then she gets pregnant, so he reluctantly marries her. His uncle has recognised her, and has to persuade Martin to do the honerable thing. But what will happen when Beth regains her memory.
This is a story that I did enjoy, but I do appreciate it might not be to everyone's taste. It did at times make me laugh while at others grit my teeth. Martin is not everyone's idea of a romantic hero. At times I wondered how Beth tolerated his behaviour.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Strong, No Sugar July 18, 2012

If this is how you like your morning brew, give this a try. This is a romance, in the dictionary sense of "adventure," but written as if PC romance never existed, and set in Victorian Australia. Here, a rich, emotionally shut-off cattle baron is forced by strange circumstances to marry the daughter of his worst enemy. How old wounds and terrible crimes are finally let go, how healing comes to willing hearts and how lust turns to love is the subject of the story. There is some raw sex and not all the pictures drawn here are pretty. Set in the Victorian era, Australian men are tough and untamed, dismissive of women, and most women, especially poor ones, know their place and endure. In short, this is as much an actual "historical" as it is "romance." The author knows the time period. (I just waded through Thomas Keneally's immense history, "Australians".) This is the often violent past of her astonishing--familiar and yet unfamiliar--country. Although there were moments when my belief was stretched, this powerful and compelling story of lust turning to love was a page turner.
